The immensity of being pulled in a thousand different directions can be straining, I first and foremost understand this through my own day-to-day life. As the world becomes more interconnected through technology, I find that we are less and less caught up in the present moment. One would think that life is long enough, that life grants a generous amount of time to find themselves, accomplish one's greatest dreams, and find true happiness and fulfillment. It's unfortunate that when this time is squandered in luxury and carelessness and given to no good end and forced finally by it being an ultimate necessity we perceive that it has passed away before we were aware that it was passing. 

I think it is safe to conclude that the life we are blessed with is not short, but we ourselves make it so. Stay present, stay in the moment, and be good to those around you.
