Illuminertia is a genre defying musical journey through lush innovative bass music blended with seductive melodic instrumentation inspired by musical traditions from all over the planet. The latest release Energy Eternal takes listeners on an uplifting as well as relaxing electronic meets organic auditory adventure that merges traditional elements from the far east with cinematic orchestral components of the west. With a song like ‘Cloud Buster’ it’s like you’re being seduced by a gorgeous mythical belly dancer inside a colorful Moroccan palace, while a song like ‘Gonzo’ might evoke the sensation that you’re soaring through the sunlit clouds alongside polyphonic renaissance violins layered over a bombastic hypnotic 808 drum beat. ‘Momentous Occasion’ and ‘Dowapaa’ are a genre morphing rhythmically charged tracks that combine the best of soulful African & Arabic female vocals with explosive break beats and tribal drumming. Foundation is a blissful bass infused interpretation of dub music layered with styles of the ancient masters. Either way you’re getting an album that taps into the richness of world musical heritage but also does well to leave it’s own unique legacy in the history of dance floor stimulating bass tunes. Ultimately it is the contrast between the ultra tight precision of digital production combined with the soulful human elements that make this musical creation something that will definitely stand the test of time.

Illuminertia is a creative umbrella for electronic music releases created by Eric "Modean" Mantras who is currently resident DJ for the Ecstatic Dance event held every sunday 10AM-12PM at the Lucie Stern Community Center in Palo Alto, CA. The music itself is essentially bass music layered with meditative, hypnotic melodies. This genre morphing production is hovering at it own frequency and if we have to sum it up in one word it would be innovative. It's medium to up tempo rhythmically speaking but the melodic elements are inspired by every type of genre under the sun. There are elements of break beat, tribal, glitch hop, IDM, & world throughout but the title track of the latest Energy Eternal EP could be classified as cinematic drum & bass. Illuminertia is teaming up with Street Ritual for an official release July, 2013. This is a pivotal release for Modean who believes that music is a constantly evolving process that can transcend all category. The unifying theme would be the deep love of music itself & the limitless possibilities of today's electronic music production tools.

From the coastal cities of Accra and Cape Coast, basked in a tropical sound heavily influenced by highlife, to the semi-Saharan cities of Tamalé and Bolgatanga (part of a self-proclaimed ‘Islamic Funk Belt’) via the central city of Kumasi, Analog Africa (http://analogafrica.blogspot.com/) has criss-crossed Ghana in search of rare tracks, part of its ongoing, hard-grooving mission to bring the soul, funk, and vintage local pop out of obscurity and into its deserved international place.

Building on the success of the first installment in 2009, Afrobeat Airways 2 (Analog Africa; release: September 17, 2013) is a selection of 13 ultra-rare tracks by some of the musical giants who had created a movement that rocked the West African nation throughout the ‘70s: legendary singer K. Frimpong; Nana Ampedu (leader of the mighty African Brothers Band); Gyedu-Blay Ambolley and his superb guest appearance with The Complex Sounds; afrobeat star Ebo Taylor, backing his son in an unreleased track called ‘Children Don’t Cry’; the enigmatic Rob and his unique blend of twisted afrofunk; innovative drummer De Frank; and Uppers International, with their raw Islamic funk style. More obscure artists such as Los Issufu and his Moslems, Waza Afrika 76 and Tony Sarfo and his Funky Afrosibi make northern hemisphere debuts, adding to a rich list of Ghanaian artists whose music could be transferred seamlessly to any dancefloor in the world.

As with all Analog Africa releases, this is about more than just the sounds. It’s about the place, time, and people who shaped the scene. To document this, the accompanying 44-page booklet of Afrobeat Airways 2 features an introductory essay written by Afropop Worldwide editor Banning Eyre, exploring the development of soul, funk and afrobeat during the ‘60s and ‘70s in Ghana. The remaining 30 pages are packed with interviews and biographies of the artists and producers involved in the creation of this wonderful music.

Additionally, the Analog Africa team have managed to track down the photographers of the famous Modern Photo studios, located at the front of Accra’s legendary TipToe, a venue notorious for organizing unforgettable dance competitions, ‘Miss Tip Toe’ contests and the most in-demand highlife and afrobeat gigs of the day. 400 negatives have been lent to the Analog Africa team. Samy Ben Redjeb selected 50 of the most expressive pictures to document this little-known but striking musical scene.

To celebrate the year that was 2014 I am giving away a special remix. I guess Pachakuti was my first ever exposure to Andean music - when I was about 8 years old the group came to do a workshop in my primary school. As it was a bit of something special in my little town in the north of England, we bought the CD. This week I found it just this same gem gathering dust at my parents house and decided to give it a 21st century edit.

The soundscape and drone was first composed and performed by VictorYibril - Spain. 
Acoustic expansion and percussion was then added by MATJAMI - Netherlands. "Sleeping Sun" is the prelude and the inspiration to the second collaboration "Victor Meets MATJAMI(VMM-style)". 
Victor made the cover art painting after we completed the musical art.
For the maximum 3-D sonic experience (Bi-anural!), position your head almost between the speakers, or use a good headphone (most ear plugs will not give you the rich, deep texture of sounds, or the 3-D image). Don't start too loud; you can always turn it up later!

This is the first collaboration that VictorYbril (Spain - soundscape) and MATJAMI (the Netherlands - percussion and gong drones) have produced via Soundcloud and We Transfer. Play not so loud over big speakers or a good headphone, otherwise you'll miss the heart beat...

Victor first created the soothing and mysterious sounds , and also painted the cover illustration after we finished the recordings. MATJAMI brought in the high-toned metal beacon sound, and then added the heart beat on the deep bass drum and the rythm on the Balinese kempli. Finally, we added the fast clicking sounds of the bat in the background (courtesy and permission of Fintan O'Brien, a brilliant and inspiring field recording specialist also on Soundcloud).
Enjoy, relax, meander with the flow of the river. 

MATJAMI and VictorYibril - Victor Meets MATJAMI

The third collaboration in 2015 between Victor Yibril (Spain - soundscape and drone sounds) and MATJAMI (Netherlands -  percussion, gongs, heart beats and bells). 
'Osmanthus' is an exquisite fragrance from a flower found on the hills of the Himalaya, and this inspired Victor for both sound- and cover-art. MATJAMI cannot help but use big, heavy gongs and concert drums to capture the heart beat of this composition, so again you need good speakers or better headphones to hear that properly.

The world was a wondrous place. Technology had unlocked the skies; beings from far off planets had become new friends. The dream of utopia beckoned as humanity lifted itself towards transcendence.

Till one day, from within, they appeared. Ravenous, disfigured monsters, mad with an unquenchable lust for flesh, rampaging through villages and cities, consuming and infecting all they met with an incurable plague: the Kannibalen virus. As this tide of death spread uncontrollably, the rich fled to the stars and the visitors quarantined the planet, leaving the rest to fend for themselves. Some hid in far off wastelands, others locked themselves in walled cities, salvaging what they could to preserve what was left of civilization. Amidst the chaos, some sought profit and power: opportunists, war mongers, pirates twisted by evil; whispers spread of half-breads and mutants twisting their strings from the shadows. But hope still lived. Bands of survivors, fighting to preserve humanity and restore the world to what it was.

This is the story of one of these groups.

This is the first song from my upcoming EP collaboration with "Rising Appalachia".  If you dont know who they are, I recommend that you educate yourself swiftly as they are the JAM;  Beautiful, elegant, sultry sisters from the South.  

Leah and Chloe play Fiddle, Banjo, Guitar, and create eloquent vocal harmonies that melt my heart.  We met 4 years ago in India and have reconnected to blend our sounds together.

They compose original music as well as traditional music from around the world.  This song "Sunu" is an african/appalachian fusion piece.  

We have had several rag tag recording sessions around the US (pictures coming soon hehe) and have had some of the most fun I have ever had in my life collaborating.  The Joy I have in my heart when I create this music is inexplicable in words.  This project makes me feel bliss.  

We're working on a full live performance also which is....dare I say.... mucho legendary
