In 1997, Jay Dee was the still new kid on the block. With the success of singles like Runnin' (Pharcyde), and Stakes is High, he had his own undeniable sound, but the majors still weren't sold.
This is proof of that.  
Jay was solicited by a lot of majors to do remixes for artists on their rosters. Time and time again, they would go with someone else. 
The joints he was coming up with were fucking nuts, but to no avail. In one case, he was led to believe that one of his mixes got thru, only to see another producers remix when the 12" showed up at Record Time. 
I told him fuck it I wanna put it out.
I had never put a record out.
Got an investor. 
Then I made a phone call.
Chris Manak, aka Peanut Butter Wolf, was my rep at TRC distribution in California. I was working at Street Corner Music ordering records from him every week. I got the #'s 
from him. Sent the masters over and we had a record.
The first pressing was on blue vinyl. Limited to 1500 copies. 
Gone.
Second press was on green vinyl.
Gone.
I also learned to listen to test presses on multiple turntables.
There was a skip in the middle of the fucking Woo Hah rmx that did NOT SKIP on my 1200. Swear to god I had the onlt 12 that could play that shit. It skipped on EVERY other 1200 turntable in the world. Fucked up. Check your test pressings on a few setups. But, that's fixed now. These records go for $100 plus on the internets these days. 
Remastered by Dave Cooley directly from a sealed blue copy.
Why? Because the plates broke at the plant, and I lost the master in a flood 3 years later. That's why.

Thrash Flow and F5 Records are happy to announce the release of DJ Crucial’s "Retro Active" on double cassette.

With new and unreleased material from 1997-2014, all tracks are straight from the original 4 track tapes, disks and sessions. Classic heavy-hitting pioneers fill the roster, including MF Grimm, Count Bass D, Grand Puba and Sadat X, alongside artists like the Alps Cru (The Holy Grail of Indie Hip-Hop), Black Spade, Jia Davis and Deep Six.  All of the beats have DJ Crucial’s consistent homage to the boom bap 90s using the SP 1200 and MPC 2000. 

This is a limited edition of 200 double cassettes.  Tape one is the full "Retro Active" album on a black cassette and tape two includes all instrumentals on a white cassette.  Each order includes a digital download to both tapes.

Continuing with the theme from my instrumental albums "Crown Jewelz"  I'm dropping a series of EP's called "Lost Jewelz". "Lost Jewelz" is a compilation of released and unreleased songs/ instrumentals, created on the MPC 1000. Here's the first joint off volume 1 featuring ScienZe and Noveliss called "Get Up". "Lost Jewelz 1" drops in August.

8thW1 & Fresh Daily met in the early 2000's on NYC's hip-hop open mic & showcase circuit. 
Fans of each other's styles and wishing there would be a win for the underdog, they began recording songs under the name "Charlie Browns Field Goal". Charlie Brown's Field Goal was put on hiatus while Fresh & 8th went on to release a few solo projects before Fresh ventured into creating event series & record label Beat Haus and 8th pursued high education and earning a degree in English.

The vault has been opened and some of the more rarer gems and classics have been now made available to the public.

10 years after Blu and Exile released their magnum opus Below the Heavens, the California duo have reunited to release 14 tracks from the original 2007 sessions. In the Beginning: Before the Heavens contains previously heard songs and unreleased gems – the best of the best chosen from over 40 songs in the vault. Their third collaboration follows 2012’s Give Me My Flowers While I Can Still Smell Them, and is slated for an October release.

In The Beginning: Before the Heavens is made of up songs that are raw and untouched, keeping the authenticity of Blu and Exile’s creativity at the time. The album has guest appearances from familiar names like Dr. Oop, Donel Smokes, Aloe Blacc, and Blame One. While “Soul Provider,” “Another Day,” and “Party of Two” appeared on Blu’s Lifted EP, the majority of these songs showcase Blu rapping at his peak, maintaining his underground attitude as he dishes on reaching star status (“Constellations”), getting radio play (“On the Radio”), or opposing views in a problem-ridden world (“You’re Gonna Die Someday”). Exile, meanwhile, builds a golden hip-hop era feel with head-nodding samples and DJ scratches.
