A snippet of a 4 hour session recorded at Bruk Up in Birmingham. I have played at Bruk Up many times and this last session was one of my Favourites. I had the opportunity to play some Jazz at the beginning of the night that featured many styles from Afro, Latin, Brazilian, fusion and the faster tempo energetic tempos you would see the likes of the shiftless shuffle crew get down to. Following the Jazz session I closed the set with 2 hours of Broken Beats joining and connecting the dots throwing some curveballs in the mix. 

Big shouts to Bruk Up Birmingham who have been running for 10 years solid and having one of the most engaging dance floors I’ve played to in my DJ career.

Born in Brazil, Hyanna has lived in NYC for a decade, sharpening her ear for music on the streets of the city and its underground dance floors. Her love for music of all kinds started as a child, digging for interesting sounds on early online discussion forums and the vast collections of family members. Hyanna’s passions for music, dancing and history coalesced into her present work as a DJ, sound system tech and record store clerk. She intends to share emotion through sound by playing dance music, world, jazz, disco and whatever moves her spirit.

Stress Control is an evidence-based cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) class for anxiety, low mood/depression, anger, low self-confidence and self-esteem, panic, poor sleep and burnout - in other words ‘stress’. Mindfulness and Positive Psychology skills are used to boost wellbeing.

Stress Control can be used to help those with existing problems with stress and as a preventative/early intervention approach. It was created by Dr Jim White, an internationally-renowned Consultant Clinical Psychologist, CBT therapist and researcher. He has trained well over 1,000 Stress Control teachers who deliver the class world-wide to hundreds of thousands of people. Independent research shows it works at least as well as individual therapy but at a fraction of the cost. As Stress Control works as a class rather than as a group therapy, there is no upper limit on the number who can attend. As there is no discussion of personal problems, stigma issues are greatly diminished. Dr White offers a two-day ‘train the trainer’ session, allowing your health staff to then deliver the classes to your organisation. Trainers need experience of dealing with stress and, preferably, at least training in behavioural approaches.
