Downplay is proud to welcome London-based producer Koi to the label with his debut EP, ‘Conversations’.

‘Conversations’ draws a line from the 1990s era of jazz-infused Liquid Drum & Bass directly to the modern era of UK Garage, with a sophisticated hybrid style that is a perfect soundtrack for smoky summer nights and a stand-out track of the year.

‘Terraced VIP’ takes the laconic groove of the former track and charges up the low end, mixing in techno-style bleeps and FX amongst the deep bass to draw you in to it’s hypnotic rhythm.

‘Wallon’ again showcases the producer’s creative combination style, merging an old school rave aesthetic to a tough breakstep groove, that is simultaneously rooted in the golden age of rave as much as it is a future-proof cut for modern times.

From Ōtautahi to Pōneke, Shli has been steady grinding through the depths of UK electronic music, cultivating a taste to call his own. Already holding affiliate ties to the Fostercare crew and having released his debut EP 'Nightcaps' in late 2020, his age might surprise you, but his hunger for the culture shouldn't. This mix embodies the natural progression of his growth in dance music, with sounds you should expect to hear from his future sets and releases.
