Solid Steel (17th January) DK steps up with his first mix of the year and it's a focus on new releases from the Ninja Tune family of labels including an exclusive from the forthcoming Illum Sphere album. First up it's the bonus track from the excellent Run the Jewels album featuring Q-Bert, followed by the Falty DL single 'Danger', Jessica Lauren from 2000 and Prime/Decent by Lee Bannon. Then it's African flavours both new and old, the recent Lone giveaway and the first play for 'Near the End' from the superb Illum Sphere album 'Ghosts of Then and Now', out on 10th Feb. Machinedrum gets the VIP treatment from Om Unit, followed by Actress, a Mr Scruff edit of Pusha T and more new music from Young Fathers on Big Dada and NameBrandSound on Technicolour. Finally it's a great Cid Rim remix for Andreya Triana, second spin for the Maya Jane Coles remix for Bonobo and a big favourite from last year by North Lakes on Phonica.

POOLScast - Season 2 - Episode 2: Soul Supreme

Back in the late 90's we were touring in N. America and Japan a lot and mixtapes were a small, cheap piece of merchandise to sell at shows so I put this collection together. Using scraps of turntable jams from Stealth, Solid Steel and various other gigs we'd been recording over the preceding years as well as answerphone messages and other miscellanea, this ramshackle collection resulted.
It's all live, virtually all improvised, there are mistakes, needle skips, sloppy scratches and bad sound quality (sound sources were from cassette or portable DAT generally). There were possibly around 500 copies made but I only had one myself. The audio for this rip was taken from the master DAT though and EQ'd and balanced in places to make it a nicer listen. The cover image of a John Coltrane painting was taken in Tortoise's kitchen in Chicago, one Sunday on a day off when PC and I were there with Bundy K Brown, hence the title.Sunday At Bundy's - DJ Food's Audio Scrapbook (side A.)
