A strangely bizarre celestial occurrence took place on the winter solstice of 2009 when a sonic spirit by the name of StrikeStone! was unintentionally beam down to the planet earth and imbued with the body of an unwitting human! Since then, the power sonic spirit/human duo has come to the realization that they must make the most of their time together by infiltrating humanity with their messages of wonder and love through otherworldly sounds and feelings, all the while trying to understand what happened in 2009 and find their way back home. We’re back again with the second installment of the Guesthouse mix series and this time it’s a great pleasure to feature our friend Lauren Randazzo, aka @lodazz. Lauren is a Detroit based DJ with a playful and lush style that effortlessly weaves R&B, Disco and house music into a wonderfully cohesive ensemble. Guesthouse 002 is a prime example, and we truly hope you dig it!

Lauren is a second generation American from Dearborn Michigan with Mediterranean roots. Growing up she was influenced by her parents taste in 90’s club music such as La Bouche and eventually had her first DJ gig at a skate rink in 9th grade. Since that party she’s been cultivating her sonic style to encompass soulful disco and house grooves with layers of old school and darker euro vocal samples. Lauren also happens to be a very talented author and she’s currently working on an existentialist project with both realist and surrealist qualities.

Cultivating diversity in the dance music industry is paramount today, as the dominance of cis white men and their vision of an ideal dance floor is still the norm. Lauren recognized the underrepresentation of femme artists in the scene and the addition of her style and perspective is a very welcome one. It’s always tough to do something when you don’t see many people like you doing it, so Abstract Sounds is proud to promote Lauren’s talent and hope she can inspire others to explore their musical creativity.

Going forward in Lauren’s musical career you can expect her to start putting out her own releases with DJ friendly 80’s house club vibes. Her additions for the dance scene don’t stop at the musical level as she also will be working to create her own events with a stripped-down DIY style where the focus will be left to dancing and the sharing of experiences. Lauren absolutely smashed this mix for us and continues to do the same all over Detroit, so if you see her name on a bill, don’t miss out.
