Maribeth Manalaysay Tabanera AKA Kilusan (siya/sanda/they/she) is a Tagalog Bisaya Filipinx queer non-binary multidisciplinary artist, educator and organizer. Their ancestral roots are in San Roque and Tamalagon, Philippines. Kilusan is a chosen Tagalog name that means movement of an individual/group. Maribeth is a child of Filipino immigrants, born, raised, and based in Winnipeg on Treaty 1 Territory. 

A life-long student, Maribeth has focused on their passions of dance, education, DJing, and community building. She has been a public school educator and artist facilitator for over a decade. In 2025, they completed their MEd in Social Justice Education at the University of Toronto and has continued to work freelance.  

Reppin Define Movement and B.O.S.S. Dance Team. As a DJ, they’ve been blending nostalgic tunes with diasporic beats to move hearts and hips since 2018. Kilusan has performed across Turtle Island (North America), alongside artists such as Cupcakke, Kimmortal, Begonia, Skratch Bastid, and DJ Maseo of De La Soul. 

In 2022, Maribeth was chosen as Canadian Alliance of Dance Artists/West Chapter - BIPOC Dance Resident, and was a recipient of the Manitoba Arts Council Support Arts Leaders Grant.  Some of Maribeth's most recent notable projects include DJing at Indigenous Grooves (Massey Hall, Toronto), choreographing 'Into Our World' at Art Holm no 8 (Manitoba Museum, Winnipeg), and writing, "Pagpapasok sa sarili ko/Coming Into Myself" published in Magdaragat: An Anthology of Filipino-Canadian Writing by Cormorant Books.

Whether behind the decks, on the dance floor, or in the classroom, Maribeth is guided by the belief that we heal through collective joy, cultural memory, and radical love. Mabuhay!
