"Who am I?" for Flute, Violin, Clarinet in Bb and Cello

I. Versions of me 
    - There is a difference between ‘Real me’ and ‘Me perceived by others’. In the beginning, people perceive me as ‘Real me’ intended, however, they start to see and judge me differently with their own point of view. My words and opinion don’t go down exactly the same way as I put, and it gradually starts to make me confuse. ‘Who am I?”

II. Confusion 
     - As I begin to doubt my own identity, people consider me completely different from ‘Real me’. They perceive my stories utterly different from my intention. It seems everyone sees me the same way except myself. I feel like I’m losing my real self.

III. Who am I? – Extension of I. Versions of me
     - Who am I? In the confusion and being lost, I cannot but compromise myself to be the one whom people think I am. I endeavor to find ‘Real me’ while pretending to be ‘Me perceived by others’. However, I cannot find the answer and continue the vicious cycle.

“來自雲中的五張明信片”靈感來源於宋朝詩人李清照一剪梅中“雲中誰寄錦書來”。 在李清照的詞中，她把雲的另一頭比作思念和愛的人，所以雲中的錦書意為愛人的情書

The title was inspired by a sentence from the poem “I Chien Mei,” “...who sent me an embroidered letters from the clouds?” was written by an ancient Chinese poet Qingzhao Li. In her words, the person who you miss and love is from the other side of the clouds. So “an embroidered letters from the clouds” means a love letter from that lover.

As a human being, I have fetters. 
Bliss Perry criticized that “They love to dance in these fetters, and even when wearing the same fetters as another poet.” about the influence between poets. But I have another comprehension of “Dancing in fetters”. It could also be the optimistic attitude towards life.
People have various sorts of fetters, fetters of lust and passion, fetters of the limitation in knowledge, fetters of relationship, fetters of government, fetters of social environment, fetters of the times.. They could have thousands of complaints about the circumstances around. Nevertheless, they can also keep a positive attitude under the burdens and still be able to dance in my life philosophically. I suppose it will be the most elegant dance ever, reflecting the wisdom and talent of human.

Fetters(2018)

The name of this piece is called “Ever Victorious”. To me, the phrase “Ever Victorious” is, however, inevitably ironic and untrue: “Ever victorious” army, “ever victorious” government, “ever victorious” parents. This piece tries to describe the suffer one has to take when facing an “ever victorious” authority. You will hear (see) a breathing figure throughout the piece that starts from abstract to concrete.
