His second label OOM Records brings back that memorable sound with high BPM loop groovers for a new era. He pioneers a forward thinking approach towards electronic music: a fusing and pulsing rhythm with a cutting drive, binding it with a strong signature groove.

Fernando Sanz aka @orbeartist has been steadfastly dedicated to the craft of beats and breaks since he was a young sprout of 14 years in the sun baked southern Spanish port city of Algeciras. Under the imprint Orbe Records, Sanz has cultivated his own thriving techno community as artist and label head. Since 2014 Orbe Records has been lashing the block rocking techno of Sanz’s comrades Eduardo De La Calle and Steve Stoll, but mostly of Sanz’s own prolific moniker, Orbe. As DJ and producer Orbe keeps the mood surreal and dreamy while deploying understated drum machine patterns to hammer the platonic solids that keep his beloved community in tact.

For episode 25 of Structure Series Invites, we have the Co-founder, Curator and Resident of FOLD. Founder of FOLD Records and founder of IMPRFCT. Records - VOICEDRONE. 

Lasha Jorjoliani is an often unreadable enigma, lending much of his time to his studio, curating line-ups and sharpening his performances in the booth. Although an undeniable figurehead of the scene, Voicedrone is by no means explicitly tied to co-founding FOLD. 

Four years on, Lasha is in an indestructible one-way lane, having developed a graphic, dynamic sound that we come together to experience. At his core is a passion to create and nurture community; this purpose is channelled into every event he plays - here at home, in Europe and beyond. Playing at influential venues and parties including his beloved UNFOLD has preserved his significance in the underground scene and his constant admiration from the FOLD family.

The phrase “leading by example” may be somewhat overused, but in the case of Voicedrone, such a statement is entirely appropriate.

Maasym, originally from near Frankfurt/Main and now based in Hamburg, stands for hypnotic, atmospheric techno with refined sound design. He has been active in the scene since 2015, founded his own label Vorm last year and has released on renowned labels such as Token Records, Illegal Alien, Flash Recordings and Planet Rhythm. His style is characterised in particular by the organic, raw sound that he consciously incorporates into his productions.

INTERVIEW
You founded your own label ‘Vorm’ last year. Was there a specific moment or thought that gave the go-ahead for this project?

There wasn't a specific moment for the starting shot, rather a thought. Many of the tracks that were being played and released at the time often sounded very similar to me and also a bit uncreative. I got a bit bored with the scene at the end of 2023, beginning of 2024 and came up with the idea of launching a new label and releasing tracks in the subgenre that I play or listen to a lot myself. I also wanted to give something to the scene and push artists who work hard, are creative and have their own style. But also, of course, to be able to decide for myself what to do with the music I produce. I then decided to kick things off with a record release.

Is there a track of yours that has a special emotional meaning for you?

My track ‘Intermediate Direction’ has a special meaning for me. I started making music in my teenage bedroom when there were no masterclasses or private courses. I sat in front of Ableton and my synthesiser for hours, trying to make my tracks sound like the music I was listening to. One label that I really loved back then (2016) was ‘Token’. Accordingly, the track means a lot to me and I am very happy that I got the chance to release on ‘Token’. Personally, it's still one of my favourite tracks.

Is there any other art form, apart from music, that inspires or excites you?

I listen to a lot of techno & hip-hop/rap, but I'm also a big rock and heavy metal fan. In general, this organic sound from the 70s, 80s or even 90s totally inspires me. There's a lot of life in it and it can often be very ‘rough’ and ‘dirty’. I always try to get this ‘life’ into my tracks when I record my patches or sequences. It doesn't always have to be perfectly produced. Sometimes it's more about the vibe that you feel at that moment when you're making music. Even if the sound is a bit too filtered or creaky.
