INTERVIEW
Was there a specific track, night, or experience that sparked your interest in electronic music or techno?

A moment that truly shifted my perspective was the first time I stepped into this small club in my city. It was intimate, niche, carefully curated. Up until then, I had been used to much larger, more mainstream venues. But this place was different, was dark, raw, with a wall of Funktion-Ones pushing out this bleepy, hypnotic techno. That night, I realized what I was really after, where my ambition was pointing.
If I had to name one track that first sparked that feeling, and still in some ways embodies the vision I’ve held onto ever since, it would be Exium - Subshell (Pfirter Remix). It has everything: tension, groove, and that spatial depth that made me fall in love with techno.

In what way did your move from Italy to Amsterdam influence your musical journey? What motivated that change at the time?

Absolutely. The decision to move was entirely driven by music. That was, and still is, my main focus. I’ve always dreamed big, and I couldn’t accept giving up this passion just because I wasn’t in the right place - or living with that “what if” in my head.
Then, as often happens, other signs and circumstances made things even clearer.
Once I got here, the environment played a big role. It pushed me. I arrived alone, with no connections, but being surrounded by certain energies constantly motivates you to do more, evolve, and learn something every day. Above all, this is where I truly learned what it means to persevere - no matter what.

Are there specific moods or energies you intentionally try to capture when producing – and if so, how do those emotions shape your workflow or your studio setup?

Maybe I’m a bit particular, but when I produce, I try to leave my moods outside. I overthink a lot, and making music helps me shut the world off and tune into myself.
When I hit that flow and things move on their own, that’s when it works. 
The hardest part isn’t usually the technical side, but quieting the mind and finding full focus. The energy in a track reflects me in the most honest way. When everything clicks - when I find a natural, simple workflow that still tells a story - that’s when I feel truly satisfied.

A dj and producer born and raised in the south of Italy, where his interest in electronic music grew alongside his collection. 
At 17 years old, he made the decision to move to London, where he was influenced by the city’s vibrant London Underground techno scene. 
This experience sparked his passion for exploring hypnotic and old school sounds.

“For me, DJing is not just about discovering the music you want to deliver. It’s also about having knowledge of music genre, history and understanding the structure of sounds, which are what truly define a DJ.”

Gianmarco is also a co-founder and resident of Polyritmica.

His sets take listeners on an immersive journey through raw, deep, and driving hypnotic techno. With constant layering and skilful blending the best of both old-school and new-school elements, he crafts a distinctive sound that strikes a perfect balance between nostalgia and innovation.
