Taken from the duo's 2021 album 'Break The Wall' MF Robots' Dawn Joseph and Jan Kincaid have released another slab of dance floor soul in 'Make The Call'. A sure-fire groove that underpins a sublime vocal, 'Make The Call' is sure to be one of the festival, event and club hits of the Summer.

Now available as a digital download, 'Make The Call' also comes with an extended version and remixes from the legendary Two Soul Fusion duo of Louie Vega and Josh Milan. These remixes bring something new and special to the track with each creating a subtly different mood for the dance floor, for the radio and for the house party.

MF Robots is a songwriting, production and performing duo created by former Brand New Heavies founder Jan Kincaid and BNH vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Dawn Joseph. The pair left the Heavies in 2014 to record their own compositions and have been wowing audiences and record buyers with their effortless blending of Soul, RnB, Funk, Disco and Jazz ever since.

Louie Vega is one half of the House music dons Masters at Work and Josh Milan is a Grammy nominated vocalist, musician and composer who also collaborate in Vega's collective 'Elements of Life'. With both at the forefront of production, composition and remixing for more than three decades, the House, Boogie and Instrumental versions they have produced for 'Make The Call' are off the scale here.

Atjazz AKA Martin Iveson is a prolific remixer who has reworked tracks for Nitin Sawhney, Bob Sinclair, Jazzanova and even Henry Mancini (the Pink Panther theme) as well as working with vocalists of the stature of Robert Owens and Clara Hill. As Martin states, 'Remixing helps hone your sound and allows the producer to print their trademark into another space.' Well he certainly has done this here with his distinctive remix of 'The Love It Takes.'.

"We’ve all been big fans of James Brown since we’ve been involved in music and have played ‘In The Middle’ regularly on our live tours. It felt like a natural fit for the Orlando project, particularly as we have added an Afro swing to the track. We first played the track with Orlando at a London gig last year and he got into it in the studio straight away – his sax solo here was the very first take. James Brown and his band loved Orlando when they saw him play in Ibadan back in the ‘60s and the two of them met up and talked at J.B.’s hotel. So, for lots of reasons, this felt like a natural one to include.”

New Strut Records compilation documenting the vibrant soul, AOR, jazz funk and disco scene across Hawaii in 1979-1985. Despite great musicianship and high quality studios, many of the recordings never made it to the mainland. Compiler Roger Bong of Aloha Got Soul brings together 16 rare tracks on one album for the first time.

“I was out in Venice with DJ Harvey," says Mark Barrott, "and "Kona Winds" came on the radio whilst we were sat by the beach having breakfast, looking at the early-morning surfers. I actually rang US directory assistance for the first and last time in my life to get the number of the station to get a track ID. I NEVER get bored of the spoken intro; last summer I was a little worse for wear in the middle of a DJ set by Es Vedra and I just looped the spoken intro and left it running for 30 mins… it sounded fine to me.”

The Public Opinion Afro Orchestra (The POAO) release ‘Fight So Hard’, the first single from their long-awaited second album ‘Naming & Blaming’. Recorded with the full POAO 17 piece ensemble, Fight So Hard is a simmering slow burn with MC One Sixth trading rap verses with singers Kuukua and Lydia Acquah, Fem Belling and Lamine Sonko. In true afrobeat tradition the album version clocks in at a trance-inducing nine minutes long! (Radio edit supplied for those on a tighter schedule). The vocals are broken up with heavy brass sections and extended instrumental improvisations while the understated rhythm section bubbles away without pause or deviation.

Available everywhere on all formats on November 30th, the ‘Naming & Blaming’ album is a pulsing, percussive journey into classic afrobeat led by fierce vocals and a howling horn section. It’s a fitting 21st-century response to the world-shaking music of 1970s Nigeria defined by Fela Kuti. The result is true to the afrobeat blueprint of hypnotising rhythm, extended improvisation and political comment, but adds to the formula a host of pan-African and local influences as well as hip-hop elements that reflect the deep ranging roots of the band. This balance is what The POAO is all about, paying respects to the culture while keeping their feet planted in the 21st century.

Look who's back! Just in time for your late summer soirées, Doug "Master Plan" Shorts offers up another pair of modern soul movers guaranteed to tear up the club and backyard boogie-downs alike. The A-Side, Get with the Program, drops hard with a bass line and groove reminiscent of ESG at their best, but the relaxed feel and smooth vocal lend the tune a sophistication that elevates it to another level altogether. As Doug pleads with his potential lover to "Get with the Program" it's hard not to imagine that he's also speaking to the greater soul community. For those not already down with Doug's program, now's the time...act like ya know!  On the flip we find our protagonist pleading with yet another prospective ladylove, this time accompanied by a bouncy, mid-tempo groove and Mary Jane-esque synth line. "Heads or Tails" would have been well at home on Chicago's boogie scene in the early '80s, but it doesn't ever sound dated. Riding on the heels of their first single off of <i>Vol. 2 (Walk On By)</i> with its orchestral soul arrangements, the second single from <i>Vol. 2</i>, Rotary Connection's "I Am the Black Gold of the Sun," is an ode to the beautifully epic orchestral arrangements of producer Charles Stepney.

But this time, the Decoders have decided to venture into the Brazilian repertoire, incorporating Samba and Jazz elements into the group's psychedelic soul arrangement.

This version features <a href="http://soundcloud.com/wax-poetics/sets/venice-dawn-something-about/">Adrian Younge's Venice Dawn</a> vocalists Loren Oden and Brooke De Rosa on vocals, as well as Jungle Fire's Steve Haney on percussion and Brazilian musician Quetzal Guerrero on percussion and berimbau.
