It’s been 3 weeks, and I’m still vibrating - still a little incredulous about playing live at Kater Blau, a venue that has been on my bucket list since it was still called Kater Holzig. It’s home to so many great artists I admire, a place that has long extended its magic beyond Berlin’s borders, and I am so honored to have had the opportunity to fill it with my music. 

I’ve been thinking about putting my live set together for a long time, so when the opportunity to premier it at Kater knocked on my door, it was crunch time. 2 months to conceptualize, dissect, render, rehearse - most of that time was spent on figuring out what doesn’t work. Many times I thought about changing to a DJ-Set instead, but ultimately, and last minute as always, I got to a point where I felt comfortable enough to take it out of my little garage studio here in Brooklyn all the way to my home country’s capital. 

These two hours on the Heinz Hopper floor went by lightning fast, and it all feels a little dreamlike still. Of course it wouldn’t be a live set without a few hiccups here and there (see if you can spot my „launching a whole scene, instead of just one clip“-mistake in the early part of the set haha), but I think that’s what makes it come alive in the first place. I learned so much from this experience, and got back to my studio/garage with plenty of ideas on how to grow from here. I want this to be a malleable work-in-progress, evolving together with me - unique, non-repeatable, moment-capturing, responsive, alive. 

Thank you to everyone to came out and got hot and sweaty with me on the hottest weekend in Berlin, literally and figuratively. A warm welcome indeed.

Deisen *live @ Kater Blau | Circles and Stones Summer Solstice 2022

Words can't describe yet another sunrise of epic proportions this time at the C.A.M.P. (Calling all Magical People) co-created gathering. Right at the beginning of my DJ set at 4:30 am on July 4th (US Independence Day) the cops showed up to try to shut the party down due to noise complaints.

I had the difficult task of keeping the decibel levels under a certain threshold, so I had to nurture a huge dance floor for the closing set of the festival until 7am somewhat quietly until we were able to ramp up the volume to proper dance floor levels.

I am not sure if it was that we all wanted this so badly, or the majestic rays of sunshine coming down upon us, all I know is that 17 encore songs & tracks after the supposedly closing "Lovely Day" song, we kept raving and raging until we almost dropped.

One of the most memorable mornings in my 21 years of DJ'ing. Here's the recording of the full 4.5 hrs of the closing sunrise DJ set. I hope it takes you all back and for those of you who weren't there I hope it brings you the sunrise  joy and magic we collectively had.

Back Back Forward Punch

Even though I consider myself quite disciplined, I want to become better. As a musician I know the pitfalls of my job, I know how high you can feel after a great show, collaboration or release, but also how deep you can fall into a pattern of ever repeating thoughts of fear of failure. 

I noticed, that besides all the techniques I use to silence my mind and focus, one thing can and should not be silenced: The desire to create. If I don’t create I can not fall asleep, if I do not get to realise an idea I have, I go crazy. So, why not use this potential pitfall as my superpower?

From today onwards I will produce a track everyday for the next thirty days. The reason for that is that our brain is capable of entering a state of “hyper learning” when we expose it to novelty, repetition and a heightened state of consciousness. When these three elements are combined, we learn more than we ever considered possible. I will put this principle, my discipline and endurance to test and at the same time come out, hopefully, with 30 new pieces of music. All tracks will be uploaded to my “30 day challenge” playlist on Soundcloud and the making of videos here on Instagram TV and YouTube. 

While this is certainly going to take some effort, I also see a chance to share a bit of my producing techniques with you. So whenever you have questions, please feel free to ask them! And of course I invite you to share this journey with anyone who might find it inspiring. Who knows where it will lead to :)
