SRM Live S03E61 - Music In Our Daily Lives

This week we have a full 2h episode, the first one of season 3! And we dedicated this episode to all the new students that arrived in Maastricht this week. 🤓

Together with WeCare, Activitree , Kaleido and mymaastricht.nl we will discuss everything there is to know about the Inkom and getting ready for life in Maastricht. 🥳

This week we will take some time to tell you more about SRM, about ourselves and to reflect back on a bit of Student Radio history! We will also talk about what our future projects are and how to get involved!

SRM Live S03E02 - Who is SRM and what do we do?

During this live radio show, we will be talking about a little creature that always causes havoc here in the Netherlands 🐛

The oak processionary caterpillars have been the reason for so many nuances for such a long time they even have their own research centers fully dedicated to studying their impact and development. 🕵️‍♀️📖 Every year, millions of euros are spent on controlling this species and yet, no progress has been made at keeping the caterpillars in check. 

We will talk to a team of students at the Maastricht Science Programme who have decided to put an end to all of this once and for all. As part of the iGEM competition, they are developing a project that is set to finally create an environmentally friendly solution to the caterpillar infestation. 🌿💚

As part of the conversation we will also have the lovely insights from our tree-man, Jim Haagmans. What can he say about the impact of the caterpillars on the trees? What are the relationships between the trees and this species and other insects? How do they all connect?

During the first hour we will talk about #corona and all its consequences on our sanity.

A global pandemic is not how any of us imagined our 20s would be like. So let's check in with our in-house psychology experts and see what's up!🏋️‍♀️ 

The second hour will be focused on breaking mental health taboos. It is completely normal to feel unstable when you are a young new student far away from home, or when you go through hard moments in life! 🙇🏼‍♀️ We are here to tell you we have been there too and that there are many ways you can start to feel better, so reach out! 🗣🙌

Now that you've all been settled and Uni started, it's time to take a deep dive into the Dutch Culture!

This week Lotte and Katinka will take you an a trip to The NetherLand! Because there is more to this little country than you would think on first sight. And some strange things they do around here... 

We'll start the first hour with some of the best Dutch music that has been around. What is Dutch music all about and what should you (not!) listen to? We'll take it further than carnaval and the well known slager, so get ready to treat your ears! 🎧👂

In the second hour, our Dutchies will give us a quick course on how to survive Dutch culture. If you think wooden shoes, wind mills and stroopwafels sum up The Netherlands, wait until you discover all the other things the Dutch have to offer! 🥳

Get ready for some fun, real Dutch humor and logic, and get ready to blend in with the Dutchies! 💯

SRM Live S03E06 Go Dutch Or Go Home!

In the first hour this week we will officially kick off our *Rocktober* with a set from Christian Pagters AKA Biscuit! Christian is a Maastricht based House/Techno DJ. 🎧 He's inspired by artists like Joris Voorn, Einmusik and Adam Port. 

Biscuit has always been a huge fan of electronic music and decided two years ago to give it a go himself. Now he recorded a set for the first Rocktober show on SRM!

In the second hour it's time for another Rocktober show. This week with an amazing set from Errol Du Ville EDV, a Maastricht based Psytrance DJ. What to expect? 

It will be a journey through deep sounds, mystical digits, universal atmospheres and great rhythms. Were you will be the adventurer, walking through a forest full of magic. You find an ancient lost tribe who will give you their sacred technology. 👽👾 Technology to create peace in this world. But the technology must be protected because there are others who are willing to destroy it. Are you the one who will bring an end to this enormous universal fight?

This week we're going to make a big announcement! *SPOILER ALERT* , there's a new radio show coming up! In collaboration with Mosae Musika, SRM will start a new show on Fridays: Mosae Musika & SRM Present! During this hour we will feature a local DJ every week. You can expect a big variety of music, from Techno, to DnB and Hardcore, nothing will be missed!
