This was listed as one of Aswad's favourites of 2020 and was one of the most notable releases across the board. On the show Aswad and Toby Glider get together and discuss about the makings of the album, influences, Japanese 80's culture and even the notorious artwork created by Chris Hopkins + more! The show also features new music from a talented roster including Frankfurt Funk, Madd3e, Big Jacks, Kutcorners, Angela Apigo and Soul Supreme.

The MER (Model Electronic Records) series was initially produced for the film and broadcasting industry and has been highly acclaimed by music supervisors both in Japan and overseas. To make these releases more accessible to music fans, general distribution on platforms like Apple Music and Spotify began with the release of “Anti-Crime Breaks (MER-3006)” in 2021.

“Cosmic Funk Expo 1: Vintage Electronic Jazz Funk Vibes,” the latest release under the moniker of MER, is a compilation album that captures the atmosphere of jazz-funk, which captivated the globe in the late ’70s and early ’80s, and elevates it into the realms of modern electronic music and R&B. With bouncy beats, undulating synth bass, and percussive slap bass creating tight grooves; the music is further enhanced by arrangements of spacey synths, piano, and brass. This album is packed with the euphoria, futuristic spirit, and mellowness unique to crossover jazz of that era. Blending a vintage aesthetic reminiscent of modern hip-hop, R&B, and vaporwave, the album features 24 completely original tracks—no samples from existing recordings were used.

"Es Hora De Bailar" pretender ser algo más que una selección de canciones mezcladas; aspira a ser un homenaje a todos esos artistas, tanto españoles como latinoamericanos, que en su día orientaron su talento hacia la música negra. Grupos y solistas que, apoyándose muchas de las veces en tecnologías pioneras como cajas de ritmos y sintetizadores, trataban de trasladar el groove y los sonidos que venían de USA a su entorno e idioma. En la abrumadora mayoría de los casos pasaron sin pena ni gloria: sin apenas impacto en los medios de comunicación y por tanto sin posibilidad de desarrollar una carrera. El resto se reorientaron hacia opciones más comerciales o directamente su contribución a este estilo se quedó en una mera anécdota. En cualquier caso, rescatar estas canciones y conseguir que las escuches y bailes, se ha convertido tanto en una obsesión como en una obligación moral para el que escribe. Espero que las disfrutes y compartas.
