I am chuffed to present my monthly residency on @universalrhythms.radio starting today 7PM UK / 8PM UK alongside loads of great DJs from all over the globe. I feel super inspired as I am basically constantly mixing records at the moment and when I listen back to my mixes I am like: that’s right, that’s exactly what I was trying to do. Congrats Marcel, you are a DJ. Eventually I ll write an essay or a book or a documentary, I have so many thoughts and emotions surrounding that topic. Anushka’s recent ‘Yemaya’ album for Tru Thoughts has been on solid repeat, so we are very excited to share an exclusive mix from the duo's Max Wheeler, who has put together a special mix linking the early 80s roller boogie sound of LA  with more recent favourites and a couple of exclusives.

Max shared some words about the recording: “This mix was me trying to blow off some cobwebs and remember how to DJ after a long time away from the decks. When I got the tunes together I realised I was really drawn to the super positive sunshine party vibes of the roller boogie stuff and so started with half an hour of that and then got into some electronic bits I’ve been finding inspiring recently before dropping a couple of sneaky exclusive dubs in, including a minimal edit of album track “Serenity” which is one of our faves. Hope you all enjoy it, one to have a low key party to, even if you’re just in your yard.”

MIMS Guest Mix: ANUSHKA (Brighton, UK / Tru Thoughts)

I think Julien Minarro aka Waxist and his then partner in crime Aurelio were the first people to book me to Paris. That must have been in the last decade. 2013 perhaps. I do remember that I came through with a battle sized record bag and that i got to know what seems every stair step of the Paris underground that night. I was also intoduced of having a relatively small collection of only rare records. It never crossed my mind you could just skip everything common and cheap. And I am proud to say I might have played a tiny part in stopping Waxist from becoming an alcoholic DJ by almost killing him that night. It seems to have worked. 
Since then Waxist has come through with edits and compilations for the french Favorite Recordings and Sol Records and made his name as a seriously funky selector of the dopes tunes between rare groove, reggae and everything in between and all around.

Took the short journey from Utrecht to Leiden to visit the family over at Maxi Radio! Once again I had a blast meeting them all and enjoying the wonderful space they have over there. This set is a reflection of that I hope. I opened the schedule so started off nice and soft with some soothing soul before working through plenty of boogie. Slowly bringing in the four to the floor deep and garage house, finally ending with some freestyle and more synth-laden funk.

Julien is a Lyon based DJ, producer and co runs the SOL Discos reissue label along side Pascal Rioux (a la @favoriterec) 

I’ve been in touch with Julien for a while now and stoked that he agreed to do a mix for us. His Serendipity show on @lemellotron and Red Stripe Disco mixes have been a big source of inspiration for me over the years!

Waxist has turned out some killer disco edits on labels including Kalakuta Soul, @rainandshinerecords @culturesofsoul & @isleofjurarecords He’s also a dab hand at A&R and been involved in official reissues of some of the rarest disco records out there. His own label SOL Discos has put out 3x 45s and 2x LP comps, so go check those out.
