PUZZLE WITH TOBHA & GUESTS — #3 w/ sinny

On March 7th 2025, i got invited to open Globus at Tresor before my friends rRoxymore and Dj Plead.

Not only do i always feel impressed when it comes to play before or after some friends, i also always feel impressed by warm-ups. This one got me even more as it was a 3.5 hours warm-up

Therefore, i decided to start slow and let the set evolve as the audience would guide me. This is why the recording starts at 90 BPM and finishes around 135. No big jump, only a progressive transition.

I hope you'll enjoy listening to this set as much as i enjoyed playing it.

Joyfully queer, unapologetically non-binary, and proudly smiling on pictures, tobha is a neuro-atypical dj, producer, label manager, curator, and moderator. Sometimes full of energy, sometimes inviting you to rest, sometimes bubbly, sometimes dark, their music is always a way to resonate with their deepest feelings.

For this 4th episode of Puzzle, tobha has invited Alex Sourbis, a long time active member of the Brussels electronic music scene. For this episode, the puzzle is a bit more "classic", the first hour focussing on ambient tunes selected by tobha.

For the second hour, Alex started from a "chill D&B" playlist he’d been building over the past year. In his own words: "Although most tracks are around 170 BPM, I chose to focus on musical keys and harmonic progressions, shifting the emphasis away from groove. Unsurprisingly, the result is a strong sense of storytelling, with the narrative unfolding through changes in intensity and emotion depending on the harmonies. Alternating between 85 and 170 BPM also adds to the shifts in tone and colour. 
I recorded the mix in one take, moving into more intense IDM-style drums and classic jungle. The goal of that "chill D&B" playlist was to prove to some of my friends that intensity isn’t defined by speed or rhythmic drive. I think I managed to show that by focusing on gentler textures and melodic elements. Of course, I couldn’t resist going harder at times — but I always found my way back to calm and harmony."

For Puzzle #6, Casper is tobha’s guest. Another episode, another ambient intro by tobha. Including some natural sounds, answering Machine Listening’s latest piece entitled Environments 12: new concepts in acoustic enrichment.

For the second hour, Casper comes in. In her own words « This mix was made during my performance at Tbilisi club Leftbank. It captures emotions—rage and sadness. It was the last day I saw my close friends, my flava, and I don’t know when we’ll see each other again. This is an immigrant’s poem and my intimate message to everyone who has left their home to build a new life in another country, but always returns to their roots, no matter what. »

ALL MY COUSINS is a multidisciplinary DJ and music collective founded in Accra, Ghana, in August 2022. Blending raw energy with global club culture, the collective creates immersive, hypnotic and bass-driven experiences rooted in underground sounds.

For this 7th and first episode of the season, Puzzle doesn't invite any 
guest on Studio Néau. But as the situation in Palestine has constantly 
been worsening for the past few weeks, both in Gaza (with the 
aggravation of the current genocide and the validated invasion of Gaza 
City by the colonial forces of Israël) and in the West Bank (with the 
Knesset approving a recent motion on West Bank annexation), i've been 
again questionning my own relationship with entertainment and music.

After many discussions i had with Palestinian friends and relatives, it 
appeared clear to me that culture can be a way to write and preserve a 
common story for a population under the threat of genocide. Let it be 
through food shared with loved ones; memories depicted in pictures, 
movies, or paintings; stories told while singing—the list goes on.

I believe our duty is to dive into Palestinian culture, listening to the 
voices who tell us what their story is about. This way, we can help to 
preserve, without appropriation nor white heroism, the rich culture 
Palestinians have to share.

This is why this episode of Puzzle will be dedicated to Palestinian 
music.
