'Pixel Rain' marks the debut release from Moscow-based musician Dima Safronov, originally hailing from Bryansk. Dima brings fourteen years of DJ experience on his shoulders, he has organized numerous parties, and he's also curator of 5/8 Radio, a music station he founded eight years ago.

'Pixel Rain' doesn't aim to be conceptual, but rather captures the mood of a specific moment, capable of sending listeners drifting along waves of memory. Four compositions feel like brief flashes of emotional impulses, joined together to form a unified whole. Two original tracks (including the title track, created in collaboration with Safronov’s close friend robsn), seamlessly flow into two dance-oriented remixes, each reflecting and reinterpreting the mood of their originals.

The opening track - 'Pixel Rain' immediately immerses the listener in a world of rich and soft digital textures, delicate rhythms, and subtle sonic architecture. The music is both anxious and pure, like raindrops trickling down an evening windowpane. The second track - 'Shinichi Atobe, I am Your Son' is imbued with a dense, sun-drenched melancholy that unfolds gradually and unhurriedly, through an elegant counterpoint between a deep dub-inflected bassline and a ghostly, mist-like melody in the upper register.

The second half of the release shifts the emotional landscape into a dance music setting.
robsn transforms the pensive soundscape of 'Shinichi Atobe, I am Your Son' into an airy, self-assured anthem, one that’s easy to imagine echoing through the early hours of a large open-air rave. The final remix by Dima Studitsky darkens the overall palette, making the rhythm more insistent and imbuing the music with a distinct nighttime energy.

'Pixel Rain' is a story told in the language of electronic music, crafted with attention and love for fleeting emotional states that are never meant to return.

The album is released by Elephant Gait Music, a Spanish label based in Gran Canaria that specializes in visionary electronic music resistant to easy genre classification.

Andrew Weatherall's first official posthumous mix. The only b2b DJ Harvey ever agreed to. Six hours at Trouw. This one's special.

When mulling which direction to go in for RA's 1000th mix celebrations, many options came to mind. Some shadowy character 2-stepping around the fringe of our collective consciousness? An impossible-level IDM icon?

All tempting. But, ultimately, we are a DJ-forward publication and this is a DJ mix series. It felt truer to the history of the RA Podcast to release deep vault material from a time when the world of niche records felt different, tighter, more discrete.

The fourth-longest mix in the RA Podcast's history is an unrepeatable marathon set recorded in 2012 at a superclub that no longer exists. 2012, incidentally, is farther away from 2025 than 2012 was from 2000... if we have to clock it, so do you.

It's the coming together of one British icon who passed away in 2020, and another whose time on the road has scaled back considerably as of late. DJ Harvey agreed to exactly one b2b set in his life: this one, with Andrew Weatherall.

The night took place at Trouw, an Amsterdam club already considered legendary before it shuttered its doors in the opening hours of 2015, as part of an RA series anchored around start-to-close combinations. Harvey was at the peak of an irresistible career second act, which dovetailed with a disco revival that dominated clubs for years. Weatherall, with infinite brownie points stockpiled from the '90s, remained everyone's favourite debonair psychonaut. 

What follows is 385 minutes of arpeggiated chug and slow-cresting climaxes, chronicling a moment when the resting heart rate of dance floors plunged lower than potentially any comparable point in the 21st century.

If you've got time to spare, a fun side game is sussing out who plays what. A disco-dub cover of Echo & the Bunnymen? Smart money's on Weatherall. Exuberant EQ'ing of The Isley Brothers? Gotta be Harvey. As for the low 'n slow, lightly spangled house that was all the rage in the early 2010s (think Maxxi Soundsystem, Disco Bloodbath, Rub & Tug, C.O.M.B.I. and Full Pupp), it's anyone's guess. 127 BPM feels practically like a racecar.

When we kicked off our RA.1000 campaign, we outlined a few goals: tick off a handful of long-awaited dream guests, honour architects who shaped the world around us and deliver recordings you truly can't hear anywhere else. We sought to render an accurate picture of DJ culture in 2025 for the longhaul.

DJing and the mythmaking around it has undergone a quantum leap since 2012, let alone 2006, 1996 or 1989. For those of us who were kicking around in the former, there's a creeping melancholy that our prime is fast becoming a matter of historical record. The killing moon really did come too soon. 

Where will DJ sets—or any of this—be in 2044? Hard to say. Best not to overthink that one. Instead, we want to say thanks to all contributors on the series so far. Rainer Trueby was born in Stuttgart on 20.08.1971. He was raised in the Neckardelta, a prosperous economic region along the river Neckar. He is catholic and goes to church on christmas. His first DJ experience was in an old people’s home (Arbeiterwohlfahrt) in Stuttgart in 1990 where Rainer was the host of tuesday afternoon’s teadance, developping a feeling how to rock an elderly but open-minded crowd (65+) with classics like “Es gibt kein Bier auf Hawaii”. After having that DJing experience, Ali & Basti Tiefschwarz gave Rainer a sunday night residency @ their ON-U club in Stuttgart where the motto was “all things nice” ranging from Soul Funk Jazz to Hip Hop and Talkin Loud stuff. In 1993 Rainer met Compost head honcho Michael Reinboth. After some 12″s with A Forest Mighty Black and some compilations (“Glücklich”) he teamed up with Christian Prommer and Roland Appel to form the Trueby Trio. Some 12s, one album (“Elevator Music”), one remix album (“Retreated”) and numerous remixes followed. His club residency Root Down @ Waldsee / Freiburg is 15 years old now. He likes to play chess with Michael Reinboth. He likes a glass of wine as well. (A decent meal too.) Being flattered as an infamous Wine Connoisseur, Monsieur Trueby keeps fascinating his audience with his incredible taste of Music which he conveys in his Productions and Remixes.

Muscovite Dima Studitsky caused a little sensation with his remix for Jazzanova’s „I Can See“ which is featured by Ben Westbeech. He is also well-known for his sensitive remix works & releases on labels such as Sonar Kollektiv, King Street Sounds, Strictly Groove Sounds etc. On this special remix, Studitsky invites us in a world of warm chords, smooth patterns and a groovy baseline which definetely introduces the .istener in a sort of ecstasy.
