Inspired by a childhood visit to Heritage Park historical village in Calgary, Alberta. Coal smoke drifts from a rumbling steam engine and a blacksmith hammers glowing iron in the dark of his noisy shop. This song follows a boy wandering beside his mother, discovering the old candy store filled with apothecary jars and the unforgettable experience of licorice root.

While other children reached for pink drops and taffy ropes, he was drawn to the odd, the earthy, the off-centre flavours — a taste that quietly shaped his personality. From Double Zout to salmiakki, from English allsorts to Sambuca and Ouzo, the song traces a lifelong affection for the darker, sharper, stranger lines of life.

This is a celebration of eccentric tastes, pioneer-village memories, and the peculiar gravity of black licorice — that ancient resin note that sticks with you long after softer sweets fade.
