After 15 years in the game, with over 60+ vinyl records pressed, including several "001s", I am very excited to finally be launching my own thing (better late than never hey).

001 - Pugilist - Monument

The concept for Ruff Kutz as an idea came about last year after doing the 3 releases exclusive to Bandcamp as an outlet for my own productions that didn't get picked up by labels. Lots of people messaged me about vinyl. including a big push from dear friend and musical luminary Stormn Norm aka Mr Modern Hypnosis. He put me in touch with Sequence Distribution and they have been amazing to work with - helping me get this off the ground quickly!

The label will be the main outlet for most of my productions going forward - focussing on quality over quantity and with no set rules for a particular sound or tempo: expect the unexpected! The first release encompasses what I think is my sound, and is a nod to my musical past whilst aiming to remain fresh and create timeless music.

Techno influence has always been something I have tried to incorporate into my productions, but I have never released a full Techno track - until now! The A side track 'Monument' is a rolling piece of soulful machine music, made to induce euphoria on the dancefloor with its 10 min run time, Dubby chords, groovy Latin percussion and melancholic pads. Homage to a lot of the 90s and early noughties Techno sounds that I am so fond of!

I couldn't think of doing the first release on the label without at least 1 Dubstep track on it, and given it's the genre I cut my teeth in - I did 2 inna pug-step style. Deep and dubbed out. B1 'Mannequin' is an introspective half-stepper with a laid back, techy feel to it. The staccato sub bass keeps the track grooving under the delicate chords and is sure to get the scoops moving!

On the B2 we have 'Run It' a hazy 2-step style tune (so hot right now) with forward thinking production, an off kilter groove, hypnotic bass and a few classy wubs thrown in for good measure. Think Horsepower Productions meets Livity Sound. Stinky!

Carré debuts on Woozy with Meltdown, the label’s third installment on wax. An exciting new iteration for the dubstep blueprint, three weighty and heady half steppers in the proudest one-forty tradition with a modern dub-club twist. Comes with two striking remixes from legends dBridge and NVST.

On Meltdown, Carré  ( @carreo ) mines closer to the dub core of her sound than ever before. The title track signals the intent, a memorable hook cascading into melodic view before the lurched momentum locks in to its sweeping bassline for pure dancefloor symbiosis. Crawler goes wider, a giddy stepper that’s dynamic swing twirls excitedly on a 2 step pivot until dissolving into a plummeting stomp for ignition. Season Seven sharpens up with a seductive pout-lip, moving loose and free across the stretchy wobbles, peppered vocals and sunrise-addled serenity. On remix duties, a pioneer and modern hero apply their inimitable touch. Exit Records hero dBridge ( @dbridge_exitrecords )restrings Meltdown as a chromatic DnB roller, gliding taut within the original’s hook to the finest looping hoods-up, heads-down conclusion. NVST’s ( @ghettonast ) OLDSCHOOL VERSION of Season Seven unlocks its journey potential, the psychedelic tremors galloping deep across the wriggling path, digging into her unrivalled excavation of techno deconstruction.

WZY005 breathes vitality into defined sounds and styles, a stunning EP from Carré of singular intent and unique voice.

A forgotten classic from 1997, rediscovered by the new generation of house leaders.

Originally released in the late ’90s, Marius Acke’s Crucial Traxx EP series is one of those rare gems — deep, funky, soulful, and full of the raw, analog groove that defines the golden age of house. Missed by many at the time, the records are now enjoying a well-deserved revival, championed by today’s leading selectors like Dam Swindle, ANOTR, Chris Stussy, Jamie Jones, Disclosure, Barry Can't Swim, Salute, Chloé Caillet, Known Artist, Sidney Charles, Shonky, Danny Howard and more.

Already a respected figure in the Antwerp scene back then, Marius Acke had co-produced numerous records for Mixz Productions and the iconic ARS label, including remixes for acts like Technotronic. His sound blended US-influenced house with early hip-hop sensibilities and deep, synth-laced textures, earning him a cult following among vinyl diggers and local DJs alike.

Happiness Therapy is proud to give new life to this essential piece of Belgian house history with a reissue of the Crucial Traxx EP series. All tracks have been carefully remastered and will be available on both vinyl and digital formats, including a special limited edition of 100 translucent red vinyl copies. HTCT01 marks the beginning of a reissue series dedicated to the lost gems of Marius Acke’s discography.

More than just a nostalgic reissue, this EP reminds us how visionary Acke’s sound truly was. Rooted in the 90s, but crafted with a timeless sense of balance and soul.
