Earlier this year, emotive imprint Anjunadeep welcomed We Are The Brave label boss Alan Fitzpatrick to the fold with his single ‘Warning Signs’. A deviation from his typical sound, the track saw Fitzpatrick experiment with deeper and more soulful influences from across electronica, breakbeat, dub and house. The result was a track that sits comfortably among the soulful Anjunadeep catalogue. 

The track was followed by a standout remix from GRAMMY-nominated duo, CamelPhat, who took an eclectic approach to reworking ‘Warning Signs’. Having collaborated and remixed some of the biggest names in modern music, such as London Grammar, Foals’ Yannis Philippakis and Cristoph; CamelPhat have become one of the world’s most sought-after electronic acts. 

‘The Remixes’ package, out in July, features a new remix from Italian-born, Berlin-based duo, Mind Against. Stalwarts of Tale Of Us’ Afterlife label, the pair’s techno roots and flair for seamlessly mixing gentle percussion with vibrant synths makes for an emotive and stirring rework.

One of our labels biggest surprise hits of last year is finally getting a much deserved singles release that is packed with plenty of pure awesomeness and excitement for the start of the new year. First debuted on Submission Universal 2021 Red Lights by Dain took the music world by storm with its unique blend of Progressive, Techno and Trance topped off with intense atmosphere. Not to be outdone however, Dain raises the stakes with another stellar production in the form of Ambar. Evoking the early 2000's progressive sound coupled with a slightly more upbeat tempo, this track is itching to be played in the clubs across the globe. Finishing off the release on a high note is one of Greece's finest Progressive producers. Basil O'Glue once again finds himself on our label with his signature production style on full display with his remix of Red Lights. Now coming full circle, Scream&Shout is getting a full on re-release that features a buffet of pure quality music. This complete edition features two brand new exiting remixes from rapidly rising Vietnamese star SICKCODE and Tunisian legend O.B.M Notion. SICKCODE's remix opts for a Progressive take combined with elements of big room and tech mixed in. The final product is a serious club floor banger. Uplifting lovers will feel right at home with O.B.M Notions remix, who amps the BPM up sky high, equaling a euphoric experience that will have no problems bringing listeners to cloud nine. Jon Gurd returns to Anjunadeep with the announcement of his latest album ‘Phoenix’, out on April 8th.

‘Phoenix’ follows the release of Jon’s acclaimed album ‘Lion’, out summer 2020, which reached #3 on the iTunes Dance chart and gained support from tastemaker DJs including Solomun, Stephen Bodzin, Adriatique, Ida Engberg and Shadow Child. Whilst ‘Lion’ explored themes of loss ‘Phoenix’ takes inspiration from themes of rebirth, marking the start of a new chapter.

“Phoenix was written during the UK lockdown last year. When things at home got to a pretty low point I asked myself what is the most empowering thing I can do right now and the answer was to make a new album. I’ve always wanted to make an album called Phoenix. I like the idea of rebirth and coming back stronger after big challenges.”

A respected selector and producer, Jon came through the UK underground in the early 2000s as resident DJ at the legendary Slinky in Bournemouth, warming up for the likes of Mauro Picotto and Paul Van Dyk. His early productions were championed by Paul Woolford, Sasha, Lee Burridge, James Zabiela, and Sander Kleinenberg, and Jon soon found himself travelling the world performing alongside the artists he’d been opening for not long before.

The announcement is paired with the release of first single ‘Emergence’. Blending intricate melodies with percussive laden grooves, ‘Emergence’ provides a taster for what is to come throughout the ten-track LP.

“A lot of the album is about getting close to the bone of feeling, a lot like Lion was in a way, but this time trying to translate old subconscious memories into feeling. Memories of euphoria when I just started clubbing 20 years ago. The excitement of discovering and dancing to music for the first time. The feeling of connection on the dance floor with people you’ve never met before. The after parties, the whole thing.”

In celebration of the album, Jon will be playing a headline show at Colours Hoxton, London on the 8th April., following successful sets at London’s iconic venues Fabric and Printworks. 

‘Phoenix’ is the latest album to be released on Anjunadeep, described by Billboard as “one of dance music’s ultimate tastemaker labels”. The label is known for discovering talents like Lane 8, Dusky, Yotto, and Ben Böhmer.

Jon Gurd - Emergence

Always seeking to break boundaries in the music world, label owner Atragun returns with an exciting release that is bound to set the tone for 2022. Originally teaming up with Turkmen producer Mason Capwell and featured on his second artist album back in 2018, City Of Love won over listeners with its energetic elements mixed in with romantic undertones that evoked an emotional journey.

Four years later, City Of Love is ready for a fresh re-release with a slew of exciting new mixes. Initiating the release is an updated mix from Atragun himself, who brings his signature uplifting soundthat retains much of what made the original so loved, while offering plenty of new fresh new production techniques that will attract newcomers to this release. Next up is a massive new remix from Russian giant Aimoon, who brings listeners a truly epic take that will rock the music spectrum to its core. Croatian regular Myk Bee also makes an appearance with his 2018 remix. This remix opts for a touch of Psychedelic flavor to spice things up. OLAN (real name Luzana Flores) has announced that her debut album ‘Contra’ will be released June 10 via independent record label Anjunadeep. The announcement comes alongside the release of the powerful lead single ‘Wake And Return’, out now.

The Georgia state native has a colourful songwriting catalogue, including co-writing credits for ‘Buss It’ for Ari Lennox, collaborations with Mat Zo on his 2020 album ‘Illusion of Depth’, the single release of ‘In Motion’ with rising star Nourey, and ‘Push’, first released on Anjunadeep’s Reflections series. Now, OLAN emerges from the uncertainty of the pandemic with her debut album.

The culmination of many months in solitude, ‘Contra’ began as a natural form of escape and expression for OLAN, helping her find peace amidst the years of uncertainty brought on by the pandemic:

“‘Contra’ is an album I wrote as a way to find some peace with my life having no definitive purpose at the time. I often try to attach meaning to everything I encounter. I force myself to re-live memories. I’ll try to unpack them and see how I could change my reality if I had just been a better person.”

Musically, ‘Contra’ is inculcated with a variety of electronic styles from melodic house, breakbeat, downtempo and drum & bass, to ambient and hip-hop. Influenced by the likes of Maribou State, Little Dragon, T.E.E.D and Bonobo, as well as the cult video game ‘Outer Wilds’, the sound of ‘Contra’ is fluid and alluringly hard to pin down. OLAN’s penchant for textural soundscapes is showcased in atmospheric tracks such as ‘Push’ and ‘Submerge’ and the buoyant Balearic vibes of ‘Material’. Conversely, the jungle rhythms and acid basslines on ‘Promise To Keep’ and ‘Reckoning’ demonstrate how raw, energetic dance-inducing songwriting comes naturally to the Atlanta-based producer.

The aforementioned themes of self-awareness and self-acceptance are persistent throughout the album, realised in OLAN’s considered lyrics. Opening track ‘Submerge’ contemplates the cyclical nature of life’s lessons, exclaiming “there’s no limit to the depth that I can relive it all”. Other tracks such as 'Promise To Keep' and 'Ultraviolet' raise questions about fulfilment and where it comes from - "I'm asking more questions / Taking no secrets / But is there a message / When nothing is sacred?". Each song presented a cathartic moment for Lu, as she explains:

“Making this album was the first time I could be present the grief, loneliness, or isolation I felt when my expectations didn’t match my surroundings. It made me realize how much happier I am when I detach from stories or specific outcomes.”

A gifted and classically trained musician who learnt her craft between orchestra classes and worship bands, OLAN prominently incorporated her own live instrumentation and vocals whilst recording the album. Suitably, Flores will take ‘Contra’ on tour live this year, with performances at Beyond Wonderland, Ultra, The Gorge Weekender, and alongside Ben Böhmer on his North American tour.

As a queer woman of colour, OLAN is used to standing out, however, it is her capacity for all-encompassing production, dynamic songwriting, singing, and instrumentation that really sets her apart from her contemporaries.
