After the Venezuelan Tuki masters Pocz & Pacheko kickstarted Upper Cuts Season 2 with the heavy-hitting techno bomb Taladro, our journey now takes us further down the jungles of Latin America to Peru, where the mysterious masked duo Dengue Dengue Dengue! can be found revolutionizing the cumbia scene. 

Drawing inspiration from the thriving and psychedelic cumbia scene of the 70s, Filipe Salmon and Rafael Pereira have been fusing these traditional rhythms with modern techno beats, with a twist of Jamaican dancehall swagger and dub ambiance, creating a unique and mesmerizing sound in the process. Their amazing debut album 'La Alianza Profana' has wowed critics and listeners alike, which coupled with their surreal videos and audio-visual live shows has won them countless fans the world over, making them one of the most impressive new acts in the tropical electronica scene. 

In Lokumba they momentarily break away from the expected cumbia template and favor a choppy, bass-heavy hip-hop-influenced beat, splashed with haunting synths and their unmistakeable mystical vibe with a tropical flair. On February 2nd, dance music titan Eric Prydz returned to the hallowed BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix decks, taking control of the airwaves for two hours of forward-thinking electronic music. This marked Prydz’ return to the Essential Mix show for the first time since late 2011, when it was recorded live from his set at Creamfields. The reaction to the show on Saturday was so big that it got the Essential Mix trending on Twitter on both sides of the Atlantic while it was being aired.

“Blackmail - I’m a Cliché remixes EP” is a collaboration between French guitarless rock band Blackmail and I’m a Cliché records. Two of the label’s figureheads, founder Cosmo Vitelli and anonymous acid-hitmaker Crackboy, picked two tracks from Blackmail’s first album “Bones” released earlier this year, and turned them into techno floor-fillers. Both remixes keep some features and the spirit of the originals: vocals from the garage (like in ‘garage rock’, not ‘garage house’), sounds that could not be produced anywhere else than in a dirty windowless basement.
