So lately I have become enamored by chaos and randomness, I have come to love coincidence and beautiful accidents, finding patterns in the randomness and living peacefully with the chaos. I find it to be the most constant thing I have witnessed in society, nature, and beyond lately, working its magic inside the smallest and largest systems around me. I see it in the trees, in the streets, in my mind, and amidst my community.
This EP, for me, was a practice of equilibrium. Using randomization tools and effects inside of Ableton I created the sonic palette, the sounds, the rhythms, the harmonies, and tones. I recorded long sessions of the computer doing its thing, creating sonic chaos, nothing harmonious at this stage, but sonic colors to work from. These recordings would act as pallets for the EP, most songs sharing the same colors. I would then, like a puzzle, piece together these pallets, taking the randomness and creating groove, melody, and harmony. Controlling the entropy by allowing the chaos to blossom into something beautiful, or ugly, or whatever the sounds beckon.
It turned out pretty darn Groovy.
