Back in highschool, when I was about 15 years old, I used to make music on my laptop. I never learned to play an instrument, but I loved math, and I understood musical composition. I used an obscure/low quality/online DAW called Soundnation, which I was a premium user of, giving me access to all of their sound sets, which included thousands of voice samples, and virtually every sound you could want. I would spent sometimes 20 hours straight editing, chopping up, changing the tone of and composing songs, which ranged in length from 4-9 minutes. you'll find 12 of those songs under my tracks in my profile, which have my oldest tracks at the bottom. you can hear my skill progress as you move forward in time through my work. I never learned to DJ for live performance. I enjoyed the tediousness of working with a DAW and of being able to use my skills in math and music composition to creatively express myself. I graduated highschool in 2014, and in 2015 I attended a sound-recording class at Santa Barbara City College in California, USA. There I was taught how to use Protools, which, obviously is more for movie production, but I could see why the teacher took that route, as he himself was a Hollywood movie sound producer and it was a way for musicians who use both digital and hand held instruments alike to both learn techniques in recording. I can't say I gained much from this class, and I can't say I ever learned Ableton. Ultimately I stopped making music after three-four years of practicing the hobby at the age of 18. By the time I was 19 I dove pretty deep into the underground EDM scene that existed in California at the time through my new partner who at the time was a popular DJ in the area. My father also happens to share a property with the same warehouse that holds the stageware for lucidity festival, our festival that happens annually in Santa Barbara California where a great line up of renowned DJs and artists perform. Through these random connections I found myself with the opportunity to use my painting skills, and I began live painting. I developed deep friendships with the members of different production crews and DJ groups in the area. Some notable groups I'm affiliated with are Divine species, Wormhole, Word of mouth, Gnarwhal, Alter beast, Dirt camp, and the Lucidity Crew as a whole. These crews gave me consistent work until 2019 when I moved to Oregon and the pandemic hit, effectively canceling all future music festivals and most of our EDM events. I have a great appreciated for my friends and all DJs, music producers and sound engineers, as it takes a special mind and a lot of commitment. it's something positive you can put out in the world. I have a lot of respect for the beauty of musical composition, the level of expertise some of my friends hold as well as the complexity of the music that is being produced now a days. although I am not sure if I will ever produce music again, I am very grateful to have knowledge in it as it does help with my appreciation towards music in general.
