Yorobi (real name Josje Bijl) is an Amsterdam based DJ & producer who started out DJ-ing in 1999 after getting introduced to a pirate radio station (Nautic Radio Groningen) in her home town of Groningen. 
Yorobi had her own show at the local pirate station with strong focus on Drum and Bass, Hip Hop & Electro. She invited guests from all over town and occasionally hosted internationally known DJ's. Her own journey as a DJ began with her debut set in the basement of Vera (a club in Groningen). After that the ball was rolling, she played all over the country alongside local and internationally known artists (such as Flight, The Upbeats, Noisia, Black Sun Empire, Grooverider), as well as in the UK & in Belgium. In 2006 she relocated to http://jungletrain.net/ where she’s still broadcasting her bi-weekly live show.

A versatile artist working as a DJ, producer and visual artist, she draws influences from jungle and drum and bass as she has very firm roots in that scene but it doesn’t stop there. In her sets she incorporates all kinds of bass music related genres like juke, footwork, slowfast, dub, electro, half-time, hardcore, jungle tekno and more. Yorobi likes to operate on the left spectrum of bass music, weaving all kinds of genres and influences together because sonically they are all family and she loves eclectic coherent journeys when playing.

You can catch her live in various bars and clubs around Amsterdam, mainly at OT301, Hill Street Blues, Melkweg, Hunters Grand Café or an illegal rave somewhere outdoors. In recent years she has been playing further afield around Europe. In 2019 she’s played in London for the legendary Rupture night as well as for a night called Deviate in Berlin, Grelle Forelle in Vienna and Membrain Festival in Sibenik in Croatia. 

While 2020 has seen a definite slowdown in live gigs, it also marked the year where the first two collabs from her and Tim Reaper came out, “Rhodiola” came out on 12” on the German Parallax Recordings and “Drum Tree” came out on 12” as part of a kickstarter campaign to launch South-London based record shop and dubplate cutting house Disc World.

In early 2012, a couple of white labels appeared from a mysterious new act from Manchester who called themselves Akkord. But the duo's carefully-fashioned cloak of anonymity didn't last for long. Soon people started talking that Akkord were, in fact, local DJs and producers Liam Blackburn aka Indigo and Joe McBride aka Synkro.

It's not like Indigo and Synkro haven't worked together before. Both started in dubstep's glory days and their collaborative works came out on labels such as Smokin' Sessions, On The Edge, Mindset and Exit Records. But in Akkord's music Liam and Joe decided to escape from the melodic stuff they've done as Synkro and Indigo and entered the territory of dark, even sinister, soundscapes and subtle metallic rhythms. As Synkro said: "...Akkord opened me up to a lot of stuff that I had overlooked. I got obsessed with dark ambient and drone, people like Emptyset and the Haxan Cloak; I got into Throbbing Gristle and Psychic TV. Going through all the industrial raw stuff I missed out on previously. That’s all rubbed off onto my Synkro work a bit — that doomier, melancholy vibe.”

The story that began with a couple of white labels continued at London record label Hounsdstooth, a spin-off from the influential venue/label operation Fabric, which released almost ten of their releases, including debut album. Unfortunately, it is almost 4 years since their last collaborative record and now guys are focusing more on their solo projects. But anyway, even if we never hear new tracks from Synkro and Indigo under this moniker again, Akkord will always remain one of the most exciting things in electronic music of the last decade.
