'Purple Velvet' is the alias of production duo Chris Crowther and Lee Dearn. Each of whom have carved out a production career in their own right, Chris is better known for his 'Coat of Arms' moniker and Lee has released under his own name and has a release on big poppa Sccucci's label as B Moe.

The old adage of 'two heads are better than one' would be slightly unfair in this case as both Lee and Chris are very talented individually... but there is just something special happening on this EP, something very musical and moving. Forget all this barry-house that is doing the rounds at the moment masquerading as 'Deep House'... this EP, this EP right here... this is Deep House.

Blog tastemakers par excellence House Of Disco return with their third collaborative compilation, teaming up with Hamburg’s acclaimed JEUDI Records for 12 tracks of sublime house, disco and tech tackle.

In the space of just four years and little over 20 releases, Hamburg’s JEUDI Records has established itself as one of the foremost imprints in the world of melodic deep and tech house music. Born from the weekly club night of the same name taking place at their hometown venue Baalsaal (on the infamous Reeperbahn), it’s a label which focuses on quality over quantity, and has showcased music from the likes of Doctor Dru, Adana Twins, Turntablerocker, Sidney Charles and Monte in its short but acclaimed history. Pushing the new breed alongside a smattering of established dons, their riff-fuelled, synth-heavy sounds are encapsulated in their monthly Sceen.fm radio show - and now for the first time in a smoking hot compilation.

House Of Disco are back in full swing after a short hiatus, building on their pedigree that has brought the world music from the likes of Finnebassen, EJECA and Volta Cab over the past two years. With an increasingly busy global DJ schedule, their own parties in London and their own guest mix series bolstering their consistent online curation, they have amassed a sizable, fervent following.

House Of Jeudi makes for a seriously moreish listen, full to the brim of incredibly consistent and charismatic dancefloor delights - with each label picking six tracks. JEUDI’s selection takes us from the moody Reese basslines of Danito & Athina’s Harmony Baby, to Sean Roman’s contemplative I Find Myself and the spooky depths of Camelphat’s 360, while House Of Disco journey through the skippy funk of Roberto Rodriguez’s North Step, HNNY’s delicate Oma Doris, and the slinky disco of LeSale’s Fit Trucker.

Suited just as well to the home stereo as to the dancefloor, it’s an engrossing compilation that’s got plenty to offer for DJs and casual listeners alike, and looks set to cement both labels incredibly solid reps even further.

Brooklyn's lovable boys on wheels are back with some fancy new routines. Four crisp cuts grace this slab, featuring “After Days,” off their critically acclaimed debut album "You Go Girl,” plus three previously unreleased edits created for the duo’s much talked about Resident Advisor podcast mix. Two of those are reworks of gems from the Frank & Tony presents… EPs; “Rings” featuring the hushed tones of Corbu and the hypnotic “Elea,” an early vocal contribution to Scissor and Thread from Bob Moses. Lastly a secret edit, “Water Under Wind” provides some euphoric, sun-drenched bounce.

This new Henning Baer is, in short, a delicious double threat. The bouncing beat never truly relents, while a spacey synth does swirly business in the back. Unlike John Osborn's delightfully-monikered TANSTAAFL imprint (best Ask Jeeves if you're confused), we're not entirely sure what "Shopping In Jail" means. But if it's half as fun as this, we're all in. Oh and incidentally, Mr Baer himself might just be making a return to our screens soon – keep eyes peeled.

Gemini arrives September 7th. Don't steal it, though.

Discovered by Manchester music guru Tony Wilson, owner of Factory Records, at The Haçienda in the ’80s, Madchester rave band Happy Mondays influenced a generation through their meld of rock-meets-dance songs and kinetic live performances. French DJ/producer Lifelike (a.k.a. Laurent Ash) counts himself one of the band’s diehard admirers. In fact, his fondness for the Mondays is so strong that he took it upon himself to craft a rousing remix of their classic breakthrough track “Hallelujah” — a single from their 1989 Madchester Rave On EP — which we are honored to world premiere. Even better is that his homage to the acid-house gem is a free download you can grab and enjoy.

“I’ve always been fascinated by the birth of rave culture in the late ’80s,” the Parisian mixmaster tells us, “especially Factory Records which I have an unlimited admiration for the quality of their releases with bands like New Order, Joy Division and The Happy Mondays. I thought I would giveaway this revisited DJ remix I did for Happy Mondays biggest club hit ‘Hallelujah.’ Hope this will bring back some good 1989 Summer Of Love vibes on your turntables!”
