Human Space Machine debuts on re:st with the Zone EP, composed during the recent lockdown era, and we are delighted to host the premiere of Sigh from this upcoming release. Through its galloping percussion, the track strides beautifully over a trail of mid-range frequencies built on slithery basslines and grooves. With a prowling tone and a gradually improved pace in its tempo, the delightfully rhythmical pattern gives away the feeling of yearning for an expedition to unexplored, hypnotic sonic territories. As a result, Sigh delivers a well-known warm feeling of engagement with its persistent loops that eventually put us deliberately into its Zone.

After the last part of the corpora trilogy and the "Paralyzed" EP by label owner Sciahri, Sublunar is delighted to introduce a new artist into their family.

For the last decade, Calum Lee AKA Paleman has steadily built a powerful catalogue of releases showcasing his unique percussive and textural take on electronic music. In 2020 he launched a new alias ‘Fresnel Lens’ that showcases his film scoring work and more experimental, explorative personal works running alongside his continuing work as Paleman. 

After 2021’s self-released PLMN005, 2 Fresnel Lens albums and a short film OST, Paleman turns to Florence based Sublunar Records in 2022 for his next release and longest work to date - ‘Veiled’. The release encapsulates a considered and focused writing process informed by rhythm, momentum, abstract moods and a desire for tangible visceral sound design orbiting techno, UK experimental electronic music, and early electronics. 

‘Veiled’ begins with a statement of precision, opener Bite gallops into action with polyrhythmic vactrol loops and grainy incisive modular sound design. The LP moves through moods, spaces and tempos arriving at the distilled and appropriately named ‘Mandible’ that chews into the previous tracks' themes with a stumbling urgency and an insectoid textural palette. Veiled feels like the culmination of a decade of Paleman works, a collection of tracks and merged sonics that represents his experiments, his club focused minimal works and his more recent explorations on PLMN and as ‘Fresnel Lens’ with drone, experimental and cinematic work. ‘Veiled’ paves the way for a new decade for Paleman, condensed and focused, whilst simultaneously expressive, experimental and free.

In March 2023, Tresor Records will release "Crash Recoil", a new album by Surgeon. It marks Anthony Child's first techno LP in five years, following a period in which he felt uncertainty in his role as a techno producer and found it tough to locate inspiration. This new album encounters him drawing on spontaneous techniques to arrive at unchartered topographies.

"Crash Recoil" originates from Surgeon's recent live sets, where he experimented with constraints in performing and embracing the twists, turns and paradoxes that arrive from this. Each fresh iteration on consistent MIDI sequences and hardware reconfigured tracks into different constellations, creating an inspiring vortex of unpredicted events where ideas could flourish. This new approach allowed him to capture the spontaneous energy of his live shows in a way he had never done before. "This is not a live album, since it has not been recorded in one go during a live performance. In the same way that bands tour songs before going into the studio to record an album, I was able to explore these songs and hone their effectiveness during my live performances before creating a studio version."

The result is eight tracks that emphasise a new techno sound for Surgeon, drawing in references from across the musical spectrum. "I can hear Coil, King Tubby, Detroit Techno and The Cure all wrapped up with 30 years of DJing," Surgeon says of the album. Melancholic hum-like ambiences smudge around unadorned, near-droning basslines, crunching rhythm and percolating arpeggiations. The tracks carry unique and potent locomotion, with a low-slung grind through toughened terrains, breathing with a free spirit, untethered by a studio-based perspective. We hear manifestations of the same raw material across the album, like a textural motif, carving new variants and creating a cohesive work full of recollection.

KHIDI launches KHIDI Digital devoted to cross-genre orientated electronic music.

Club KHIDI's passion for electronic music is about to reach a new level with its launch of KHIDI Digital.
Alongside peak-time oriented techno, the new digital platform will include cross-genre productions that resonate with a rapidly changing world and cultural environment. The main goal with the label is to bring techno and avant-garde electronic music closer together that will contribute to a cultural awakening and critique of current aesthetic conventions.

The first one is from Lemna, a Japanese composer, producer and sound designer. Lemna's rich musical background from different genres has led to a natural progression into cross-genre productions with a rhythmically experimental approach that balances ambient with techno.
