The wait is over - PB4 is here. Perhaps one of the most revered album series in drum & bass is back with a vengeance, and some are saying it maybe the best yet. 

It’s hard to believe this is the debut track by Calibre on Metalheadz, and it’s already a firm dancefloor favourite thanks to its skipping drums and variants in bass. The drums have the unmistakeable Calibre air to them, the air that grabs you by the hips and demands you move and paired with the aforementioned screwface bass, it really is a foregone conclusion that you're going to move.

It's summer time, It's hot out there... and DJ Patife is about to make it even HOTTER. Directly from the sun soaked beaches of his native Brazil, SUNANDBASS & V Recordings are proud to bring you DJ Patife Presents- Viva Brazil: SUNANDBASS Sessions.

DJ Patife has compiled new and exclusive music from some of the most exciting producers in Brazil including names such as L-Side, Alibi, Drumagick, Andrezz, Simplification & Translate, Drumagick, Level 2, David WS, Vangeliez, Critycal Dub & DJ Chap along with new music from himself and guest appearances from top class talent such as Command Strange, The Levels, ArpXP & MC Fats...

This project is an important one. Its represents Patife's re-found love for the game that was re-ignited by a trip to the SUNANDBASS festival. In his own words, DJ Patife tells how and why he felt so inspired.

'From 2009 to 2013, I was away from the industry due to marriage, kids and other personal stuff, but also I'd stepped away from the scene because at that time I wasn't so happy about the music that was out there. A lot of things was changing and it seemed like a natural time for me to take a break.

Then in 2014, I had my first SUNANDBASS experience, it was a game changer for me in so many ways! As a Drum & Bass lover, it was hard to believe that for a whole week an event took place in a paradise named San Teodoro in Sardinia (Italy). An event full of people who love this music from all around world, all alongside those legends who've been in this scene since the beginning.

As a person who loves to share, I thought about my boys in Brazil who have been following and supporting D&B all these years. I was trying to find a way for all of them, or at least a few of them to come to SUNANDBASS, and to see and feel what I was feeling.'

... and thats exactly what he did. Viva Brazil: SUNANDBASS Sessions is a beautifully compiled ode to the SUNANDBASS festival, but also Patife's love of Drum & Bass. This exciting project kicked off last month with 'The Vibe Is Coming EP' EP that was released on both digital and vinyl on SUNANDBASS's own label with a selection of tracks that can also be found here.

The tracks on this compilation are fresh and new but they also manage to capture the essence of the first time you went raving in the sun. This album is a labour of love for Patife, SUNANDBASS & V Recordings.

After a two year hiatus, Bristol-based Hugh Hardie returns with 13-stunning tracks on his second studio album, ‘Shadows & Silhouettes’. After the success of the ‘Colourspace’ LP, he’s continued to develop his drum & bass style, producing a plethora of beautiful summer liquid, slick drumfunk and smooth down-tempo beats. He’s teamed up with the high-rising talents Pola & Bryson, Silence Groove and Unglued, as well as singer-songwriters Emer Dineen, Cimone, Robert Manos and Charlie Brix.

Kicking things off is a glistening dose of summer soul, ‘Raindrops’ featuring London-based singer/songwriter Cimone. Calling back to the Hospital loungecore sound, this stunning liquid roller brings untold levels of elegancy with soothing piano and that feel-good flavour Hugh Hardie is loved for.

Another shade of Hugh Hardie’s latest musical design is ‘Resistance’. An unlikely pairing with Hospital’s young wildcard Unglued but this drum-heavy dancefloor monster has all the stand-out trimmings of a jungle banger with skittering synths and warped vocal cuts.

Back down the path of soul-filled drum & bass is ‘Endless’ featuring Emer Dineen, a voice recognised for her many features on London Elektricity’s own productions. Plus there’s ‘Negomi’, with its funky bassline riff and east-asian inspired string work.

In addition to an impressive array of solo D+B productions, ‘Shadows & Silhouettes’ also sees a special feature from Shogun Audio’s Pola & Bryson on ‘Siren’. Together they’ve created a real stand out moment of the album with this captivating garage / breaks 130BPM road trip.

Available across digital and streaming platforms, CD, and 2x12” transparent hot-fuschia and ocean-blue coloured vinyl, with artwork design from fellow Cambridge turned Bristol-based artist, Mr Penfold.

Submorphics (Greg Axelrad) has made his name with soul-drenched, deep, emotive, nostalgic-yet-forward-thinking music. His productions display a fine-tuned signature sound with a distinct tone and melodic sensibility that has earned him admiration from fans, DJs and music lovers alike.

Releases like ‘Long Been Gone’ and ‘Higher Ground’ (Ft. T.R.A.C.) cemented him as one of the top soulful D&B artists in the 2010s, leading him to start releasing longer projects focusing on deeper emotional musical journeys with an emphasis on sonic detail. Tracks on Shogun Audio, Hospital, V Recordings, Metalheadz and Integral saw Submorphics demonstrating a unique take on soulful D&B, connecting the dots between his eclectic influences from Detroit and Chicago with UK Drum & Bass. 

Signing to The North Quarter in 2018, Submorphics released 5 larger projects on the coveted Dutch label to widespread acclaim. Joining the dots between soulful hip hop + D&B in his own trademark voice, the Detroit Haze EP and Kodak Dreams LP put a stamp on his longtime sound and vision with stunning effect - garnering love from both the D&B scene and larger beats scenes. 

Following this, 2021’s Newport Magnetic EP demonstrated a refined sound palette while still retaining his trademark deep melodics. Then in 2022 the Verona Highway EP showcased an even wider screen electronic vision and emotional range, honing in on a moodier Detroit-themed synthetic D&B sound. And in 2023 the script was completely flipped with the psychedelic guitars and hazy organic beauty of the Moonbeam Drive EP.

Later that year his darker Detroit influences returned with the popular Galattico EP on legendary 31 Records. 

And then with little warning Submorphics launched Rosebay Music - an imprint that has proved to be 1 of the standout labels in the soulful D&B realm. With a carefully A&R’ed release schedule, Rosebay tunes have received widespread support from across the board of the D&B scene. 

All this has lead to an active DJ schedule and Submorphics has travelled the globe playing his favourite soulful bangers and the best in modern D&B, engaging with fans young and old with his passionate take on the genre.
