Adult Film is more thematically elastic than any other of his recent albums, and spans songs that reflect on matters such as aging and mortality, growing up and growing older, and how these things impacts our relationships – including the way we interact with and view the life around us. Kasher is as lyrically incisive as ever: the album Is packed with thoughtful apprehensions, cleverly turned phrases, and reflections on himself and the world at large, all run through his distinctive filter of dry wit and frequent self-deprecation.

Musically, the new album plays down the orchestral element of his lush debut solo album The Game Of Monogamy (Saddle Creek, 2010) and offers a more direct, yet no less affecting, blend of rock and pop. Kasher is aided throughout by Sara Bertuldo (bass, vocals), Patrick Newbery (organ, keys, synths, horns), and Dylan Ryan (drums) – who backed him while touring around Monogamy – as well as Nate Kinsella (drums; of Make Believe and Birthmark); Laura Stevenson (vocals; of Laura Stevenson and the Cans); Matt Focht (drums; of Head Of Femur); Jenna Morrison (vocals; of Conduits); Laura Carrozza (flute; of Aficionado); and Sarah Holtschlag (saw). Adult Film was mixed by John Congleton (St. Vincent, Wye Oak, Explosions In The Sky) at Elmwood Recording in Dallas, TX.

Using the elements of water, electricity, vibration, and pulse, this 3-piece from Austin, Texas create an ethereal psychedelic experience of electronic storms, atmospheric voices, and rhythms that unfold and explode in otherworldly scenes.

Migrant Kids was formed in 2011 in Detroit, Michigan by cousins Miguel Ojeda and John Zakoor. The two come from a large migrant family where they all grew up playing music together. Soon after the formation of Migrant Kids, John and Miguel decided it was time to leave the harsh winters of Michigan and head south to Austin, which is where they found the 3rd member of the group, Bryan O’Flynn. Bryan, a then recent Austin transplant from Cincinnati, Ohio, shared that special Midwest connection with them and they started creating music together. The trio continued to progress their musical styles and musicianship, resulting in their debut album 2 years later.

Drawing heavily from the influences of David Lynch and the method acting techniques of Stanislavski, Migrant Kids create more than just individual, one-dimensional songs. Their art feels less like an album and more like a drug induced hallucinogenic experience of electronic spirits and atmospheric ghosts. Vocals are breathed, not sung. Melodies pose questions. Rhythms erupt over vast soundscapes.

Every aspect of Migrant Kids is a collaboration, from the musical concepts to the artwork and photography. John & Miguel perform vocals, guitars and bass, and synth arrangements. Bryan performs drums, sampling, and synths.

“For our first taste of their debut, the band has released lead single “Canvas Of Me,” a rollicking burst of pop sensibilities and hook-y, interlocking rhythms. Delving deeply into blossoming layers of hazy synths and sun-soaked guitars, with waves of tribal percussion spilling out over the sides, the track is both informed of, and separate from, their own personal histories. Feeling both reverent of their influences and determined to break free of them, Migrant Kids make music that seems to be decades old at times but also modern and relevant. It’s this purposeful dichotomy of influences that keeps their music, and “Canvas of Me” in particular, from feeling too staid or self-aware. Stadium-sized yet intimate, the band never allows the rafter-reaching emotion to overcome the track’s more subtle, communal tendencies.” – Beats Per Mintue

The National are a Brooklyn-based five-piece hailing from Ohio. The group contains two pairs of brothers -- Bryce Dessner (guitars), Aaron Dessner (bass, guitars), Scott Devendorf (bass, guitars), and Bryan Devendorf (drums) -- and features Matt Berninger on vocals. The National's music has drawn comparisons to Interpol, the Smiths, Tindersticks, and Tom Waits -- the latter due to Berninger's shattered, beautiful earthquake of a voice, which recalls the holy trinity of Cave, Cash and Cohen. However, though concerned with the forensics of heartbreak specifically and the human condition generally, the band are no mere copycats.

The first of three 7" singles from Kishi Bashi's acclaimed debut album "151a". In addition to the album single "Manchester", Side B features and an orchestral cover of "A Sunday Smile" by Beirut. 

The orchestral quartet rendition of Beirut's amazing song was arranged by Kishi Bashi, and appears exclusively on this 7” release. The recording is not available digitally, aside from the download code which accompanies the vinyl. The vinyl itself features a unique Purple & Orange colored splatter design. 

Each of the three 7"s in this series features a different orchestral cover song on Side B,  a different vinyl color, and corresponding cover art which forms triptych when all three are placed side by side.
