Something a little different for ya.  Me at my moodiest.  In more recent years I apply tags to my tracks of different vibes so that I can organize my massive music collection better.  One of the biggest categories is 'Moody.'  

Of course a lot of people going out on Friday and Saturday night to my gigs are out to celebrate, so this category doesn't get as much play live as more funky upbeat rhythms.  As such it's somewhat underrepresented on my Soundcloud.

Well not anymore :). I'm dedicated to releasing more sets this year and I see this one as the start of a series.  Welcome to Ben Annand Moody AF :). 

The opener of this series is an opening set I played on a Sunday night from 9-11pm. It's actually just the first hour, 9-10.  It's ok to be moody when people are settling in :). It was also November just after the time change and loss of light... the beginning of the moody season in Eugene :)

An opening set is always interesting musically (or should be) because you get to start from scratch, and set the tone for the whole night.  So it's always a set that should be played with intention.

In this particular case, I was in a sensitive space because I had taken some really nasty criticism from the organizer of an event recently before.  I won't go into detail but it was very tactlessly and cruelly delivered.  So of course that affected my headspace both in terms of insecurity, and in terms of wanting to deliver a great set since I didn't entirely disagree with the criticism so much as I was hurt by the tone from a supposed friend.

So why am I telling you this?  Because this set is moody as fuck!  It opens with a lush vocal track that really spoke to me when my marriage suddenly went up into smoke. I find this track really intense so I haven't played it much but at home.   

The mix stays deep and moody, gradually building energy then wavering then building.  It's super trippy, a little dark/melancholy for me, but still house and totally danceable of course :)

Our sunrise outting at Burning Man is one of my favorite happenings each year. It's a culmination of our art car project, the Dirty Goat Roadhouse, DJing, and celebrating a new day with loved ones. It's pretty special. 
This mix is a selection of tracks that I don't play out very often. These are not bangers or heavy hitters, but a collection of minimal/deep/tech/melodic house music spanning over 15 years. This sunrise was right before the big storms, the sky was spectacular. Please enjoy the mello vibes.

As a dj, Zeebo's has put in some serious work to develop his sound and skills over the past few years, his debut set at Flammable is a lovely reflection of his range and abilities to keep butts on the dance floor.

SubRhythm's steady drum beat to prominence was no overnight phenomenon. Without hype or fanfare, he has grown from hero of the Sacramento underground  to guest DJ at some of the West Coast's most acclaimed clubs

Raised on healthy servings of deep as a geo thermal lava flow of underground S.F. House, Wet Pool Party’s, 2nd Sunday's, Foundations parties, he is now influenced by future visions from the likes of: Dirtybird, Toolroom, Repopulate Mars, Relief Records and SoCal’s beloved Desert Hearts & Slightly Sizzled crews. He has also been hosting his own events since 2006, most recently Funk N’ Brunch, LuVnity, TechnoColor, and Movie House Live. 

In his tenure, SubRhythm has performed alongside some of the communities top artists;  Worthy, Joeski, Joe Pompeo, Jonn Hawley, G-Dubbs, Sacha Robotti, Kevin Knapp, M3, Johnny Fiasco, Colette, Mark Knight, DJ Dan, Mark Farina, and has appeared on radio shows with LOLO Knows, Make Friends Radio, Listen To House Music (LTHM),  Chaotic forms, HMNI, and HouseWreckaz to name,  but a few, and have further spread his influence amongst the discerning House and Tech community - and cemented his reputation therein. 

Whether it be his downright filthy and massively fun take on house music, his deep and textured techno, boundless energy, fearless approach to hard work and love for sharing music and connecting with people - Subrhythm sets are always touched with a magic and emotion that few rival.

Most recently, SubRhythm expanded outside of CA to play his first east coast show in Brooklyn CA at LP Harmony, in addition debuted internationally as a headliner in San Jose Del Cabo, Mexico @ Mixology. So far in 2020, SubRhythm has played along side Joeski, and opened for Bruno Furlan @ the world acclaimed SF nightclub HALCYON (pre-covid). In addition, recently has been participating in multiple livestream/twitch events, including two from burning man camp Celtic Chaos, Sacramento’s record labels LTHM and HMNI, and SoCal’s Slightly Sizzled Sunday’s show, just to name a few. 

SubRhythm has maintained a steady musical influence during the pandemic by guest appearing on various local stream events, and co-hosting a weekly music & movie combo live stream called Movie House Live (www.twitch.tv/moviehouselive ), with rotating artists, cult classics and modern comedies. A quirky twist filled with solid vibes and great music has had this weekly going for over 20 weeks. Be sure to tune in every Wednesday night 8pm-11pm.
