We are an independent record label based in Manchester, UK. We are interested in hearing from bands that completely kick our asses, and musicians who create music that that is utterly distinctive. Or, at the very least, Not Shit. The general idea is to release music we like by people we like on any format  (CD, vinyl, whatever) that we or the artists feel is appropriate. We are currently working with music that fits into the 'experimental' and rock/alternative' genres; we are however open to submissions from people working in any genre, but unfortunately will only respond if these submissions are in some way in keeping with our intent. We are serious people. If you are not, we're probably not going to be interested.

As you can imagine we are under huge pressure at the moment and are working flat out to ensure Cafe OTO survives this. The impact of this situation is extremely acute for small venues like ours and we need all the support we can get to pull through. Please donate what you can, if you can. Thank you. 

Cafe OTO opened in April 2008 with the aim of providing a home for creative new music that exists outside of the mainstream. It comprises one large cafe/performance space open during the day serving food and drink with an evening programme of live music almost seven nights a week. 

OTOROKU is part of OTOProjects - a not-for-profit Community Interest Company (CIC) that has been set up to manage the programme at Café Oto. Any profits from OTOROKU are put back into supporting what we do and will help us to continue programming the best musicians and performers from all over the world.

Bartłomiej Kuźniak

Composer and musician. As a bassman and saxophonist, he has recorded over 30 albums. Active since the late eighties, he started in grindcore-industrial groups, and then continued founding groups of musicians from different backgrounds, playing post-hc-free-jazz or heavy and trance-like avant trip-hop. At the same time, he was dedicated to contemporary chamber music composing, performing and acoustic music recording. He also participated in radical electronic projects ranging from isolationism to noise. He has been the leader of 2g and 3 Metry. Co-founder of Sub Spa, QKS, Golden Nine, 2g as zmu and Quantum Vacuum Oscillator, he cooperates with various solo artists as well.
He has been involved in mastering for 15 years, as a music producer leading his own High Definition Spherical Sound Studio – “Studio 333” – which is a workplace for artists and the basis of the 333flow.com project that brings together all his creative output.

Dawid Kosiarkiewicz

Composition, baritone & tenorsaxophone. Studied at New York New School for Social Research (1992-1996). Playing reeds and grand piano, Dawid recorded and toured with bands: QKS, 2g, Golden Nine, 3 Metery and Quantum Vacuum Oscillator. Also collaborated with Pauline Oliveros, Amina Meyers, Joe Giardullo & Cezary Gapik.

Maciek Polak 

Philosopher and economist by education. By profession, a journalist, serviceman, long time lecturer and owner of analogia.pl, one of Europe’s longest running companies specialising in the field of vintage analogue synthesizers.

By personal preference, a sound designer and active member of a number of musical projects (2g, Golden Nine and Quantum Vacuum Oscillator), using mainly modular synthesizers (including his beloved EMS VCS 3).

Poet, author of a couple of books, writing mainly prose poems.

Maciej Ożóg 

PhD, media theorist, researcher and musician. He works at the Electronic Media Department, Lodz University. His research focuses on history and theory of media arts, panoptic / postoptic surveillance culture, information society and posthumanism. He has published a number of articles on aesthetics of interactive art, history and theory of avant-garde film and video art, and experimental music.

The founder and co-founder of a number of musical and multimedia projects including: Noize Dance Esthetics, Spear (with Joanna Niekraszewicz), ben zeen (with Pawe? Cie?lak), Aural Treat (with Marta Heberle), Sub Spa and Quantum Vacuum Oscillator. In 2009 he started audio-visual project Nonstate.

In 1998 he founded Ignis Projekt, the record label dedicated to electronic and electroacoustic experimental music. Ignis has released records by artists such as: Francisco Lopez, Ultra Milkmaids, Vance Orchestra, Indra Karmuka, Crawl Unit, Origami Arktika, EA and Spear.

Curator and co-curator of events such as: four editions of the exhibition “Die Kunst Ist Toth”, performances by Coil, Noise Makers Fifes, Column One, Troum, Xaviere Charles, Zbigniew Karkowski, Aube, Tetsuo Furudate, Asmus Tietchens, inter alia.

Cezary Gapik 
was born in Czestochowa, Poland in 1963. He started his musical activity in 1980 as an animator of punk rock bands. Soon enough he discovered new sounds which were brought by the punk rock rebellion. Cabaret Voltaire, Public Image Ltd. or other “new wave” bands had an enormous influence on the perception of music by Cezar. Plunging into the fundaments of musical avant-garde (Karlheinz Stockhausen, Morton Feldman, Luc Ferrari, La Monte Young), the appearance of new creative possibilities (computer) together with the works of artists like Mick Harris (Lull, Scorn), Illusion of Safety, etc. had definitively shaped the musical direction towards which Cezary Gapik follows. His musical creation is based on drones and micro-tonal sound planes interlaced with abstract “images” (field recordings, prepared instruments, various objects) or computer-processed synthetic sounds (glitch)…

Marcin Bijak 
Composer, and multi-instrumentalist. He works as a solo artist in projects Deadcans and Nines 091,999. He is alco a member of various collectives like: 2g, zajeb.mu, Golden Nine, SLAID and Kosmodrom project. His music escapes clear definition – sometimes it is close to contemporary avant-garde electro-acoustic, sometimes to minimal techno, alternative, or a specific non-dub-step. Professionally he works as a sys-admin, SEO / SEM specialist and coder.

He experiments with all forms of media image, making films, music videos, and dealing with photography. Nowadays his main activity is a form of live video.
