While Tim Schumacher’s career was certainly rising towards a high ebb this summer, this comes to no surprise to those who have been following the  Mühlheim artist’s trajectory. A Salon des Amateurs family member, the man behind Aiwo Rec. has delivered a bewitching EP for Music from Memory sublabel Second Circle, proving that he is not only a master of breakbeat and rave, but also the keen commander of a very distinct 4th-World-meets-Industrial-German persuasion. Ellie Stokes is a truly exciting Bristol-based selector, rapidly ascending from the underground with a DJ style that adds colour, variation and flavour to the retro house cuisine.

Here she comes forward with a head-spinning mix of grooves and moods, a wave of warm air peppered with sand, debris and spray. A texturally complex journey through sound.

In parts, this is a true spin of classic house.. But in more ways it's a shot through the kaleidoscope; slap bass, organic vocals, live drums, liquid analogue synths. Proper quality vibes from West Coast UK!

"The  mix  was  recorded  at  the  end  of  the  summer  and  captures  the  early  evening  summer  headyness.  It's  compiled  from  tunes  I  was  listening  to  and  playing  out  at  the  time,  from  deep  and  chilled  to  more  dance  floor  vibes.  Recorded  in  my  sunny  flat  on  vinyl  and  digital."

Ten Brains! Much can be achieved with One Brain, so it begs the question: how much goodness can be conceived with Ten?! There is a very clear and definitive answer, concealed in the aural fine print of the debut Ten Brains release, PIPE, which finds a cosy home on Houses in Motion.

Crisp and emotionally pervasive, the record is punctuated by playful basslines, melodic quips and bouncing broken beats; as fitting in the rainforest as in a jungle of heaving bodies in a dark room.

Taking the reins for the flipside’s reinterpretations are trusty pilots RP and Andy Garvey, who both add a large helping of heat and euphoria to the mix.

Our Next #Subsession podcast guest needs little introduction, as we welcome none other than- Jacob Herschel.

You probably remember his work with Rizumu, 52hz, and Philly's favorite summer weekly jam "Fountain Green". Jacob has played a pivotal part in Philadelphia dance music culture for more than a decade. Recently he relocated to Providence, Rhode Island where he has played part in hosting a DIY bi-weekly after hours parties with Symposium Records called "Beep & Klang". He has also been working throwing a monthly art gallery party called "Groove", helping further the scene in Providence.

Jacob is no stranger to subsurface as he joined us in celebrating 10 years of Sean Thomas's Drumsong party in February 2019 featuring special guest Recloose. We have special plans for Jacob to return to the City of Brotherly Love once the dust settles.
