In conversation with Delay Grounds:

- What sort of direction did you take with this mix?

All my mixes tend to get a bit gushy at some point or another so I think for me it’s just a matter of working my way up to that point, trying to hold a certain level of intensity and/or riding the energy in and out of the climax points. I love blending the weird/groovy with the emotional, its almost like trying to confuse people as much as possible for as long as possible while maintaining somewhat coherency and then giving them the relief of a big emotional melody… something like that anyway. 

- What sort of music have you been enjoying recently?

Been bang into Severed Heads recently, a fairly new discovery for me but a seriously amazing band. It like industrial/experimental 80s vibes, a lot of there stuff is quite noisy but when it hits right it hits sooo goooooooood. Check out a song called We Have Come to Bless the House. 

I’m a big fan of Henry Greenleaf too at the moment, really top notch productions and sound design going on in his tracks. Theres one inside this here mix which is particularly excellent called Pan Strings, literally no idea what’s going there its fantastic. 

Big Loraine James fan too right now, her tracks are always quite stripped back but have a really interesting arrangement that holds my attention. The music is always cutting corners, flipping back on itself and rarely does what you think it’s gonna do. 

- What other interests do you have outside of music?

Ontologically speaking everything is pretty interesting I think, the Universe is pretty mental in general and I enjoy having my mind blown … I love Outer Space, History, Art, Food, People, Cycling all that good stuff. I just want to learn as much as possible and continue to grow as an individual and as part of a wider community of artist/producers/humans/carbon based life. It would be reductive for me to specify individual interests because everything is connected, my creative process is a feedback loop between my mind and physical reality. I am influenced and influence in return. Hope that answers your question haha..

- What should we be looking out for from you in the coming months?

I have loads of music coming actually, the pandemic has really slowed the process down which is very annoying but also fine I’m just being impatient as I’m just really excited for everyone to hear it. I have two 5 track EPs coming out over the next 5 months and a few remixes here and there. Follow Tropopause Records and Lapsus Records on social media for updates on all of this!

issu is a UK based producer and DJ with a deep love for dark, dance floor focused electro. He has been producing from a young age and is now emerging with his own unique take on the UK electro sound. Issu has a number of tracks coming soon on some of the most exciting labels in the electro scene, with his productions characterised by dark textures, sci-fi atmospheres, driving synth lines and frantic, club ready electro beats.

As well as having a fine ear for producing, Issu has been DJing for many years and co-runs a Bristol based night and collective, Dock34. His track selections often include dark, industrial electro but incorporate elements of techno and UK breakbeat.

In this spotlight, Issu takes you on a journey through a selection of his unreleased tracks, created and refined over the past few years.
