Sébastien Léger at the Great Pyramids of Giza, in Egypt for Cercle

Subtonik are a collection of three London based DJs and producers uniting for the first time - Howard Atkins, Giles House, Monami. They have been producing music separately for the past ten years exploring different genres and styles as their musical tastes grew and developed.
Their first release, Lunar Industries looks set for success in 2011 and tips its hat to a lush bubbling progressive style. A number of other projects are well underway with a good mix of sound.

Influences are diverse and represent three overlapping and yet very different tastes in music. Artists from Underworld with their rich warm sound to James Zabiela and his unique style taking in others along the way from past to present including Laurent Garnier, Sasha, Steve Angello, Maya Jane Coles, Jamie Jones, LTJ Bukem.

A brief history of Howard, Giles and Monami:

Howard's early work was mainly dark and techy drum n bass tunes which often challenged the conventional, pushed the drum n bass boundaries and blurred them with a grimey garage flavour.
Giles started composing and producing when he was at school and produced some minimalistic electronica and some generally weird rubbish. Having left school for Southampton Uni in 2000 he started DJing and was soon a well known figure on the UK Garage scene and this meant the end of his producing.
The scene was short-lived and it was when he met up with his old friend Monami that they started playing funky and latin house together at some of London's biggest clubs. After a few years of DJing House music in Soulfulblend, Giles was inspired to start up his own music again and linked up with Howard who had become an extremely skilful producer. His experience and knowledge helped fuel Giles's refound interest.
Monami had also steadily been plying his trade and was himself a renowned UK Garage and 2step DJ but his passion for funky and latin house took over. With a highly succesful DJ career behind him having graced Ministry of Sound, Pacha and Egg to name but a few, Monami was now busy working away with his own productions and teamed up with an MC to remix Pain Relief by LJ. This received huge underground acclaim and paved the way for his next project. A remix of a Hipslinky tune.
Monami started working on this and his early demos received overwhelming support. It was at this point that the three friends decided to unify their work as Subtonik.
With three very different musical backgrounds and styles, Subtonik looks set to be an ever evolving sound with routes in many genres and influences from many styles. Watch this space for an exciting 2011.
