One of the most soulful EP’s of these last months, especially when you get to know why it is called “H57”... JAFFA SURFA’s tracks for the 3rd release of the Belgian underground label Eating Records are more than personal for the artist. He impresses us all in every single quality way he takes in notable releases on different labels from his first FEEL IT EP on OFF RECORDINGS to the last ALL INN RECORDS (including a bright tool from the italian duo BASSA CLAN).
We can talk also about how he holds a strong appreciation from the soul, funk, disco, through all the shades of house music and all the way up to techno.
It does not seem a surprise to see him producing a track as OKOTA. We can notice some vinyl scratches and effects with some small vocal snippets from the legendary Hungarian comedian, the stand-up artist HOFI GEZA.

MOOK is a beautiful deep journey with a very raw vox that he is the only secret holder. This track sounds like the future and the past in the same time. The samples, the loops and the beats are more than just the patronizing dalliance of a bored man, they are tools used to explore the underground side of the track.

AION’S DUSK is the most intimate track for Zoltan. We can hear the birds of an early morning on his terrace of his former apartment in Budapest. We can feel the breeze and even the effect of the some chill “J” ambient after a long exciting night. The mood that surrounds this final track and the end of the EP flash of hazy analog hiss is almost as rich as a beautiful feeling of weightlessness upon anyone who’s completed the journey with a proper sound system.

TELURIC’s remix of OKOTA is an itchy and restless foray into making a track out of almost nothing except wheezing bits of rhythms. This talented Romanian producer has already released on some respected label as POLEN, BLEU CIEL (alongside MELODIE) and VADE MECUM (with YAKINE and SUCIU). Do not hesitate to follow his footprints. 

Jaffa Surfa - Mook

Makcim has been a standard-bearer for reduced house music in Amsterdam for around a decade now. As a resident DJ he has been a cornerstone of the VBX brand since their early days. In the past years he has found his footing in the studio as well. Together with studio partner Levi Verspeek he forms a creative tandem that has been outputting certified dance floor heat on quality labels such as Raum, LHR and Apollonia. Against this backdrop its not hard to imagine why they were invited to create the third installment for the VBX label. The pair delivered a 3 tracker showcasing their brand of sultry and irresistibly groovy house music. This one is guaranteed to shake up dance floors around the world. Capataz immediately grabs your attention and makes you ask what is this? The unique call and response vocal is instantly memorable and the overseer of the playful peak time track with an incredible sub 303 bass that holds everything together while pushing the song forward. You can hear the Girada Unlimited edit being played by Ricardo Villalobos at Amnesia and most recently in his BBC1 Essential Mix. The 12" vinyl features edits inspired from Liaisons Dangereuses, a 80's German electronic band founded by Beate Bartel and Chrislo Haas with vocalist Krishna Goineau.

On the other side, Reserval have been made at Momo Trosman’s house but there is no more information about it. Raresh's favourite.

Girada Unlimited - Where's Daff? (7/x)

Moving on from the house tinged vibes of LTDX1, side A of the follow up sees Bluetrain (aka label boss Steve O'Sullivan) slip into full Steppa mode for some serious skankin' in the shape of "Armchair Analyst". Set to a classic one-note riff, he fires the machines into action with neatly swung riddims, low toms and a tight kick to hold the groove - making the most of the interplay between reverb and splashes of delay, he fills the spaces and levels in between with precision. Subtle yet groovy, it bears all the hallmarks worthy of soundbwoy status that'll bring some much needed bounce to the dance floor.

By contrast, Side B welcomes a full portion of head nod from Dutch(ie) dub master Roger Gerressen. "Long Overdue" places a firm emphasis on a finely tuned metronomic snare as snappy hats swirl their way around. With off-beat kicks pulsing down low just as much they roll, he makes the most of the bare essentials, injecting a widescreen feel to the composition. A filtered guitar riff and splashes of vocals criss-cross their way across the stereo field, which will appeal as much to techno heads as it will to fans of HEAVY bass.
