For our 4th original release we have a meeting of minds between two of our very close friends, Subb-an and Thoma Bulwer!

Made deep in the green countryside of Devon’s hills, before being adeptly finished off at TB Studios in Hackney Wick, the Devon Hills EP pulls together influences from 90’s tech house and early breaks to bring four driving and groove-laden tracks, functional but with heaps of soul.

The A side comprises two late night Autobahn bangers, rubbery misbehaved basslines and precise chord rhythms made to hypnotise the dance. Devon Hills is the most outspoken of the pair, with a loud chiming hook and an earwigging bleep melody, while DV-07 prefers to remain composed in its rolling bassline and sharp drum programming. 

On the flip things go a little deeper with DV8, a padded out and chunky tribal breakbeat track with a deliciously crunchy snare. Closing out the four-track EP, East Wick lightens the mood with a sporadic break and bouncy synth melody, great afters tackle.

Butter Side Up is one of the most reliably high-quality labels operating at the moment, privileging quality over quantity in some of the prettiest packages you’ll see (thanks to their enduring collaboration with designer Sophie Douala). The latest EP from Stockholm’s Basement Space continues this streak, leaning into the more musically and rhythmically interesting side of house and breaks. The broken beat force is strong with this one, but what really stands out is the incorporation of rave gestures into the equation, be it crafty sirens and lasers or pulsing acid on the B side or the rolling hip-house groove and scratches on the lead track ‘Cosmonaut’. We’ve picked ‘Equilibrium’, with its sophisticated jazzy breaks, taking our imagination to a beachfront situation. This is music being made with intelligence, shot through with a real sense of fun, and all backed up by serious musical chops.

Gamine strikes back with the fourth release, this time by Signal Corps, a duo consisting of Tom Butcher and Mike Perkowitz. Stepping between the nicer side of electro and punchy new beat, this solid five-tracker is a serious tool for dancefloors and afterhours. Groovy rhythmic arps and beautiful acidic melodies are combined to produce the perfect blend between old-school flavour and contemporary effectiveness.

   Cyan. A moniker for one of the ‘90s standout musical exponents: Bryan Zentz.

A firm favourite in vintage house circles, Physical Education will soon welcome him to the fold. They’ll be re-issuing tracks from his discography to create Selections, a Cyan release for today’s scene.

Iodine and I Hear Voices come from Zentz’s debut 1994 EP: Peacekeeper. Blissfully futuristic, we’re taken down a proverbial wormhole thanks to rolling acid pulses and glitchy synth lines. 

On the B side, I Hear Voices receives a modern re-working before proceedings finish on Strata 2, a track taken from the American’s 1995 release: Starkness.

Serving up 4 slices of tech’d out wiggle, melding: techno, minimal, electro, and a splash of noxious chemicals, the Anxiety Bar EP comprises a variety of heavyweight d-floor weapons.

Threat Level Midnight blends a combo of idiosyncratic drum samples with an infectious bubbling synth line, a prime example of peak-time tech-house tackle. While the title track Anxiety Bar takes a dark, moody, almost gothic turn, seriously phat bass for seriously phat systems.

On the B, Integrated Lizard People slithers and slinks about gurgling synth lines and features unsettling reptilian almost-vocal sounds. Serving as a high-class closer, Fermented Feelings reigns in the trip with satisfying electro-ish drums, sauntering atop a sophisticated, warping melody
