Daniel Alvarez, better known as Dubpoet or Suferdesign, is a Colombian-born DJ, producer and graphic designer currently based in Montreal. Over the past three years, he has been cultivating an eclectic and versatile sound, ranging from house and techno to minimal, disco, electro, world music, ambient and more. He has played at various local clubs, afterparties, and radio shows, including Le Salon Daomé, New Haus, Pow Pow Club, Barbossa, Durocher basement, and n10.as.

Plus1 started as a spontaneous  drive of doing the best, when possible, in absolutely everything you manifest. Being born in a smallish town like Buftea, stuff needed to happen in order to entertain myself after school or after that lovely 3 month long vacation you have every year as a child. And by stuff, think about some basic electronics, mechanics and even other crafts. Music was something that came into my life very early but while I was in school, casually, throughout the primary classes i've listened to local, underground romanian hip-hop and then that slowly turned into house music. The DJ-ing part is mostly ambition; in short, “Someone didn’t let me at the decks” is a quote of myself from back in  2009. In 2007, I’ve uncovered radio ProB, a underground Romanian music radio hosted by a guy called Dj Zet. He've shown me, for the very first time,the pleasure of djing house music, the kind of music that all sorts of people grooved on (and they still should) – a kind of dancing,latin and very rhythmic funky house. Soon after this I’ve begun developing my own preferences in music with a whole buch of somehow groovy, bouncy and rythmic tunes, by from artists such as Riva Starr, Mastiksoul and others. In 2011 things went back to the world of underground, partially thanks to the producers who took the funky house I’ve once knew into the world of dub and tech house not that deep into the underground. Being a resident DJ of Monarch Caffe back in the summer of 2013, I’ve made sure that everyone was partying on a perfectly balanced mix of deep house, techno,with flavours of dub and minimal along funky house of course. Fast forwarding a couple of years, gradually, that wasn’t the thing for me anymore. The producers I’ve loved had stopped delivering for a bit but, inevitably, something else clicked. My attention is now with the broad genre of minimal house music, a genre that is keeping me captivated in electronic music for the love of the whole process, enjoying it wisely.
