La preposición procedente del latín CIRCA se utiliza en bibliografía científica, en documentos his- tóricos o en genealogías para ubicar temporalmente un acontecimiento y determinar mediante supuestos, en qué momento de la historia de la humanidad ha podido suceder. Con este título este nuevo trabajo de Jëan Fixx busca desplazarnos a un tiempo indeterminado donde la relación del ser humano y la tecnología es tan estrecha que ya no se alcanza a diferenciar el mundo virtual del real.

Atrapados por la abstracción magnética del techno y su incansable beat, los 25 minutos de este EP nos remiten a un universo mental, con profundos bajos estructurados en atmósferas industria- les reverberantes a las que se asoman ciertos pasajes melódicos, dejando entrever una pasión más orgánica, fruto de un inmenso e irrefrenable deseo de expresión y comprensión.
Sólo el poder de la palabra nos hace dirigir la mirada hacia cuestiones concretas como en “Humans” donde nos interpelan a cuestionarnos los límites del ser humano y su capacidad de autogestión, en “The Truth” el texto introduce la incógnita de algo que desde el poder se está ocultando a la población, y en “Virtual Body Language” nos introduce en la lógica de la representación virtual y su capacidad de evocar formas que nos llevan a otros mundos y a otros cuerpos. Es “CIRCA”, que evoca en su título a algo que busca concreción, la que no posee texto, dejándonos con sus reiteradas pausas los huecos para que podamos rellenar de contenido al gusto del consumidor.

CIRCA es un viaje en cuatro partes a través de un universo todavía por definir que avanza impa- rable hacia lo desconocido.

Butter Side Up Records keeps up its early momentum with another standout EP, this time from Parisian beat maker Sweely. Of course, the 12" once again comes with artwork by Sophie Doulala and expertly explores a mix of heady and spaced out grooves. 

William Montana is right at the vanguard of the current French scene. Blurring the lines between minimal, electro and house for the last few years, he has been installed as resident at the cult Parisian club Concrete and has previously impressed with releases on the likes of Lobster Theremin, Negentropy and Automatic Writing. This latest outing marks another tasteful step up. 

Opener He's Mine has a slick and squelchy bassline carrying crisp broken beats off into the cosmos. It's a journeying track that really takes you somewhere. Next up, the Girls Are Watching is a rubbery minimal pumper with buoyant kicks and warped, tripped out synths that bring brilliantly off-kilter feelings. 

The flips side features the hard hitting title track - a driving fusion of electro sound designs, propulsive drum work and a killer baseline that burrows deep. Last of all, Hotel Corsica zones you out with dreamy pad work. Icy and slippery hi hats add to the late night atmosphere while withering chords bring the warmth. 

Private Navigation is an EP prime for plenty of classy dance floor adventures.

Hailing from Birmingham, One Records has been a purveyor of quality underground house and techno for over a decade. This year One enters its tenth year coinciding with the 50th release on the label.

A1. Antoine Sy delivers a reggae infused house groover to make you aware about the need to save the forests!

A2. "Imagine a beautiful lady acting like a robot in a super green garden under a glittering sun. She is clicking her arms and legs according to a simple 2-steppy texture and she is occasionaly singing nothing understandable except for a surfer-like interjection. Short-release synths and ethereal pads complete the picture adding some kind of nostalgic vibes to it. Yoyoyo!"

A3. Pohl strikes back with a moody a brilliant track on his own imprint Ovnie. „Traveling....“ has all the incredients to make you shake even at your home-office. A curly simple lead melody, a heavy old-school Bassline, crispy jacking drums and ascendant synth strings that colide with pealing LFO’ish addicting bleeps to a perfect dance track. 

B1. Samuel delivers a more funky breakbeat vision with acid zaps, bleeping tones and reverse percussions to keep the pace up and down a sure track to keep the dancefloor jacking.

B2. Test tube is one of many unreleased collabs by Luks & Kizoku. The moodiest one of the bunch, it is driven by breaky percussion, resonant basslines and lush keys.

Wicked Bass is a label from Ukraine, that emerged from the party series and before that – the music blog (from Blogspot-era) with the same name. It could be considered well-established and aged (as you can see from my use of the word “blogspot” above). Throughout its history, music from people like Violet, Parris Mitchell, Vakula, Bok Bok, Huerco S., Kuzma Palkin, Raw M.T., Junes and Ancut landed on its wax and digital releases.
