Dj Nasty aka @detroitsfilthiest is one of the original creators of the Ghettotech sound in the early 90's. 4 tracks made of dirty bass, soulful strings and hi speed 808 patterns. If you don't know what ghetto style is by now, he will break it down for you.

For any person, within communities, it has the ability to starve us of something essential OR positively recalibrate an individual whose introspection can lead to creation. The title & concept of this release is simply an acknowledgement of a creative process in which going inwards can lead to the discovery of something unique.

We as people move alongside technological advancements & this has the power to ‘connect & isolate’. Our personal relationships with one another also take on new forms as our tools for communication change. This inspires creative action. The human response to modern devices can result in surreal and unfamiliar expressions. In terms of music, our instant access to information from the past & engrained intuitions lead us to revisit atavistic rhythms of the past & reinterpret them with new sensibilities. We create music from the ‘Now’ that traverses the ‘Past’ with sights set on the future!

Bonds created from this expression can withstand and even strengthen even when inter-continental physical distance is imposed - forcing us to look inward to investigate the true depth of relationships forged out of creative expression. Rhythm has been used for millennia to locate the deepest parts of the soul & to re/connect spirits - this is true also in the modern age. Certain feelings cannot be expressed via digital text-communications nor with words alone; Music is the answer. Connection through disconnection.

Fragile X is an exciting new collaboration between vocalist Inga Schunn and producer Dylan Chase.

The group began in 2019 when Schunn posted an iPhone voice recording on Facebook in which she sang an acapella in her native German. Her friend Chase, who was recording and releasing at that time as Caffeine Worldwide, heard the 30-second clip and immediately asked Schunn, at that time only an acquaintance, if she might like to record something.

Neither of them realized at the time that the first sessions would lead to a debut 4-track EP that capably references as many styles as most full-length albums from established artists, while also setting a blueprint for a project that could go anywhere from here. 

The opening track alone, “Lifetime”, opens with a woozy blend of UKG rhythms and Royksopp synths, before giving way to Schunn’s sedate rendition of Daniel Johnston’s “Some Things Last A Long Time” … basically the years 1990–2002 distilled into 5 furious minutes of 5am energy. 

Across the whole release, Chase’s productions show the same cinematic flair that made his previous releases on French Press Lounge, Third Try and Human Concrete Block must-haves for your late-night record bag. 

A2 “Prix,” with the kind of R&S attitude that would make forebears like LFO or Lone proud, could be the soundtrack for an illegal outback rave or a sunset drive over a Big Sur overpass. The album closer, “Fragile X Theme,” sounds something like if late-90s Bjork was commissioned to soundtrack the movie Hackers with Akai samplers on loan from the Hartnoll brothers. 

But the whole release may be overshadowed by the B1, “Karaoke Girl”, a track Schunn and Chase wrote in Mexico City in 2019 after a rough night at a Zona Rosa karaoke bar.

Opening with dripping synths as soft and inviting as the last drink before sunrise, Schunn tells a story of a woman who overstays her invite at an intimate birthday party between friends, taking the mic from the birthday girl and singing “Seal, Rush and Kate Bush” with a “death grip on the mic.”

It’s a bizarre, vivid song for such new artists to have come up with, and the lyrics are underpinned by Chase’s equally adventurous combination of Nordic disco elements with heavily treated bursts of Japanese koto. 

The Lifetime EP’s title is a reference to the laborious process that it took to make the record, with multiple recording sessions across two countries followed by endless edits and a Covid 19-related vinyl slowdown bringing its release to a crawl. 

But the record itself is a fast-paced, dopamine rush debut that we are proud to share with you as both the culmination of a long process, and the beginning of a strange new story.

This time round we have a double announcement to make. 

Here at Seven Hills we are joining forces with our esteemed friend Bobby. over at Pleasure Club to roll out a brand new collaborative series: Seven Pleasures. We’ll be bringing you the best from both with a run of seven sinfully good releases to ignite the senses. 

First up on part 1, we have Omar and Bobby in cahoots on the A side representing the Pleasure Club camp; their heavyweight offerings make dynamic synth lines and shrewdly stripped back breaks the focus. Whilst on the Seven Hills flip, we have our friend, beat conjurer and mastering artiste Thee J Johanz, with his tracks flaunting the perfect measure of carefully crafted hypnotism and harmony.

Thick metal bars covered the window, limiting the light that entered the already dark room. What was visible was unfamiliar; the heavily padlocked door, the single chair in the corner.... He had no recollection of how he'd ended up here. Panic began to set in as he tried to retrace the last few hours in his mind, and he couldn't. It was completely blank. As he got to his feet and made for the door, a key began to turn in the padlock; he'd soon have his answer.

Following releases from Silicodisco and FLXXX, San Francisco's Roam Recordings welcome back Tronik Youth for a new EP titled Lost In The Media. The two originals are backed up by remixes from Disco Halal alumni Autarkic and shape shifting producer and Berceuse Heroique regular Black Merlin, who stretches the original in to a ten minute Industrial slow burner, that builds on a fuzzy synth line and robotic vocal samples that take cues from early New Beat.

Kaltblume’s introduction to the label is a banger; 5 absolute face melters destined to cause havoc in your ear.

Coming in hard with the big kicks, surrounded by moving percussions and a female touch. In Pleasurable Pain a lot is happening, though concisely to hit it into the groove.

Title track Hardfloor Brutus' kick and screeches remind of the earlier days of hardstyle, up-front kicks where the bass sits nicely behind the delay of the kick.

Fast percussion seems to be the recipe in a lot of Kaltblume's track, but in Transhuman Era this is joined by a utopian synth spreading gusts of melancholy.

OPOSITION as a newcomer to the label puts in the dirty work for an even dirtier remix; face slap techno on the open hi-hat. An appetizing bass synth adds the missing touch.

More feel is added in CYNKT's remix for Kaltblume. An extra layer unfolds a new chapter of desolation in Transhuman Era.

No messing around with this one folks. I guess I must have been feeling some pent up intense emotions from the lock down because when I went to write this EP four steam rollers came flying out of me. These tracks are definitely up there with some of the peakiest peak timers I’ve written so strap on your seat belt and get ready for the turbo thrusters to kick in.
