The latest release from Astral Records welcomes Deciduous to the label for their debut EP. Based in Ireland, the Deciduous production duo was conceptualized in 2017 with a mission to bring their synth-laden progressive tracks to the dance floor. Two years spent perfecting their craft eventually led to 2019 releases via 3rd Avenue, Awen Records and Parquet Recordings. 2020 then saw similar successes with the Dublin residents showcasing their music on Eternity Sounds and Running Clouds. Now following an EP on Vagabond Recordings to begin 2021, Deciduous step up to Astral Records with a three-track showcase entitled 'Other World'.

Through distinctive design and spacey soundscapes Deciduous have carved out their own unique place in the underground. 'Other World' showcases this wonderfully with it's mysterious and deeply compelling architecture. Devilish sonics built around a tough, cavernous groove and striking percussion make for a heady seven-minute journey. An expansive break sits at the heart of composition, melting down to a dramatic array of sonic artifacts, before a sizzling build ushers in an arp driven finale.

The second selection 'Midnight Hustle' comes in equally mesmerizing with its robust framework, psychedelic structures and alien-like design immediately grabbing your attention. Tense yet exhilarating, its emotional range is vast, accentuated beautifully with arcane hooks and astral trails, eventually leading to a poignant break and fierce final act.

Rounding out the release is 'Tara' which finds Deciduous exploring the deeper realms of cosmic techno. Backed by a punchy groove, it's bounce and drive quickly become infectious. Billowing stabs and trailing effects offset each other nicely, as romping rhythms and clattering percussion build momentum across the first act. Icy overlays descend at opportune moments, adding additional depth as layers of sonic artefacts saturate your senses during a dramatic break and charged final movement. It caps off a superb Astral Records debut for Deciduous, who are most certainly an artist duo operating at their creative peak.

'Nebular' opens the cake with a clear analog sound. This amazing composition is built by several layers of hardware synths with strong organic percussions that in occasions are treated as effects. Progressive House hero Hernan Cattaneo and Telaviv genius Audio Junkies meet for a huge re-interpretation using the powerful synth that will blow your mind. For 'FM', the production team presents their fresher and more modern face into a fantastic groove. The breakdown is full of tension and people get crazy when it reaches madness at its peak point. Closing the pack we have 'Keep Working' an electronic music slice that shows the perfect balance: it can be used for a closing, but also for a decisive point of the night. The vocal is saying to you: You have to keep the fight.

Lux' is what we use to measure the intensity of light as we perceive it, when it's hitting or passing through a surface. The first track, that gives the EP its name, embodies exactly that - the fluctuating, ever-changing nature of light; from fragile and fleeting to overwhelming and powerful. 'Lux' kicks off with warm synths creeping in, like rays of sunlight breaking through the clouds. Dreamy crescendos take you for a ride and build up until they melt into a comforting blanket of piano chords, accompanied by a propelling hi-hat pattern that will make you want to move. The track is hopeful, the start of a journey, with compelling break downs, industrial rhythm elements and powerful build-ups such as the one to the final section, dominated entirely by its fusion between techno-beat and dance-feel. Next up is 'Odyssee'. An unapologetic track that picks up the pace. Kicking off boldly with harmonic tension and enticing drum sounds, it's hard not to surrender to the rich and fast-moving soundscape. Proud drums meet steel sounds and tentative piano figures, all glued together by the driving beat, determined to get to the next stop of this lifelong voyage. Striking accents, in the form of short-lived breaths or staccato bass lines take you through a labyrinth of growing gritty synths. A track that easily leads you through space and time and makes it feel like the most natural thing in the world. We're greeted with standalone bright and sparkly synth movements as 'Phoenix' rises and wraps us in warmth. Gently, like raindrops, a rhythmic pattern starts dripping in. Definition, like in many of his other works, blends rhythmical sounds that couldn't be more different into one, making them sound like they were never meant to exist unless next to each other. The track is a symbiosis of modern and classical sounds, lets us bathe in analogue warmth but always rolls along with digital precision. 'Phoenix' starts softly and ends in roaring flames: in a repetitively enchanting party, fabricated out of dark, pumping beats and gritty synths. 'Raven', the final of the four tracks and the lead single (released alongside the Jonas Ratshman remix just 1 week ago), intrigues with chants and empowerment just as much as with its determination and fragility. Falling from the highest heights, Raven lets you rediscover who you are when you hit the ground. Carried by a throbbing four-on-the-floor kick drum and covered in a synth-haze that is hard to resist, you'll float along, fall and rise with the everlasting wave-like movement of human existence.

Tim Branch began listening to many genres within the musical spectrum at a young age and acquired influences from uplifting happy vibes to dark underground sounds, producing a wide range of styles packed with emotion. His productions are always designed around classical instruments and analog synthesis topped with sweeping pads, straight rhythm and deep basslines, taking the listener to far away places to appreciate the purity of the music.
