Some things in life cannot be measured by numbers or translated into words. Having the privilege to officially remix a track by Hernan Cattaneo is one of them. Among this select group is the Brazilian producer and multi-instrumentalist BRVNOV, who has just delivered his own interpretation of Love Is Coming Back. The original track, released in February 2023 featuring the Egyptian-Canadian duo Husa & Zeyada, presented Zeyada’s hypnotic vocals — which were preserved and carefully repositioned in this new remix. The remix sets an intrinsically hypnotic mood from the start, guiding the listener through a sensitive and immersive journey. The break, wrapped in melodic pads, creates a moment of absolute trance and seems to suspend time before the drop, which is luminary and expansive. This is BRVNOV’s third release on DOC Records, consolidating not only his place in the label’s catalog but also the trust and respect of Gui Boratto. With impeccable technical polishing and a steadily growing creative signature, BRVNOV shows himself fully in tune with the Progressive House territory and ready to continue pushing its limits.

Both Jamie Stevens and Danny Bonnici require no introduction. With a combined 50 years plus of honing their craft they’ve played their part in shaping a sound that is mood-laden, energetic and never derivative. They deliver on that premise by combining for an excellent two track EP that highlights why there is no substitute for experience.

Lead cut ‘Pretty but Lost’ is that rare track, an exquisite journey that feels like the sonic equivalent of reading a fantasy novel. Built on a bed of lush reverb and atmospheric FX, it lays the groundwork for a weighted kick that anchors the listener in reality. Layers of shimmering keys, textured samples, and delicate stabs set the scene for a woozy saxophone to take centre stage. With the free-flowing energy of a jazz player lost in a moment, the instrument paints a dreamlike story that says more than words ever could. This is a production built for grabbing attention and should find favour with anyone who enjoys their dance music on the cerebral side.

On ‘Bells’, the energy is tempered in a deep pool of warm drums and comforting bass. The percussion flutters softly, accentuating a cascade of sounds and FX that drift in and out with the energy of fond memories. After the bells foment into focus, they ripple through the breakdown like rain on a still pool of water. It’s exquisite progressive music, equally suited to the dancefloor or a quiet moment of daydreaming.

From Berlin, to the World

1. Neon Lights: There’s something about hearing great DJs spin their magic that stirs up some kind of spark in you. Inspirations and ideas start to fly around, melodies pop in and out of the spatial auditory bubble around me. This experience was felt after hearing Hernan Cattaneo and Patrice Bäumel doing a splendid back-to-back at Stereo back in November 2023. In that moment of newly-sparked inspirations popped the bass line of Neon Lights, and the rest built into the track that it is now.

2. Trapped: Do you sometimes feel like you can’t escape yourself? “Stuck” with your self? Trapped in your own awareness? And that there’s nothing we can do about it? You want to scream, but scream from what? You want to let go, but let go from what? Pondering endless questions and contemplations feels frustrating, but somehow peaceful at the same time.

3. Meditation: This track is somewhat of a continuation of “Trapped”. From feeling like a bad trip, to grounding oneself. All it takes is bringing your attention back toyour breath as you say “inhale, I breathe in - exhale, I breathe out”.

4. Audacity: This one is a different style from my usual club-focused music. Oftentimes I will have ideas for vocals popping into existence and build a new song from that. I may not always have an idea of where the creative process takes me with that, but I see where it takes me. “Audacity” was one of those productions.

Hyunji-A - Neon Lights (Original Mix)

Peruvian producer Hubert Gomez has appeared on Fade Recordings and No Signal, and now makes his debut on Sudbeat.

'Death Lurks' is a warm tinkling affair, with its infectious stabs setting the pace, as blips and bleeps and an underlying arp add extra layers. A slight wonkiness adds to the mystique of this gem, as its subtly bobs along. A voice like synth line creates more tension and adds to its rich sound. This is most certainly a sophisticated track that does the business for sure.

Picking up the pace and adding a darker layer, Petar Dundov casts a melodic, yet moody shadow across proceedings. Tougher and intense vibes are order of the day here as the bubbling bass meets the riff thats been accentuated and used to the full here as we are treated to a master class of how to remix a track and make it your own. Its a biggie.

Fellow Peruvian Izakaya Deployment takes on the second remix, and delivers a restrained and beautiful workout, utilising the melodics from the original, and expands creating a wondrous emotive melting pot. A tasty touch up that gels this EP together nicely.
