Presenting their second release of the year, Antrim’s Or Two Strangers welcomes Sebastian Sellares back to the label for a new EP. The Cordoba resident has been one of the imprints core artists since first appearing in 2019, with five original productions released over the course of a prolific sixteen month stretch. UK behemoth Anjunadeep, Cid Inc’s Replug Records, GMJ and Matter's Meanwhile and US powerhouse Proton Music have also served as landing spots for the Argentine's mesmerizing productions, while progressive music tastemakers Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren continue to champion his sound. With the year being highlighted by the recently released Replug vehicle ‘Sky Above’, a joint EP project produced alongside fellow countryman Ezequiel Arias, Sebastian now returns to Or Two Strangers with a three track showcase entitled ‘Blizzard’.

EP opener and title selection ‘Blizzard’ finds Sebastian operating at the peak of his creative powers. Fuelled by tough driving beats and layers of hypnotic percussion; it’s Sebastian’s stirring melodies which ultimately shape the piece into a memorable dance floor slam. Colourful cascades emerge leading into the main break, sitting in an emotional headspace and bringing with them trails of balmy atmospherics and effervescent effects, before eventually breaking off into a drop of rebounding rhythms and heartwarming chord changes.

Selection two ‘Elements of Nature’ lands with an equally impressive display of craftsmanship. Sebastian re-affirms his ability to tip a late-night dance floor over the edge, with wobbly grooves and hip-swinging percussion laying the foundation for misty atmospheres and smoky instrumentation. Sitting comfortably in an ethereal yet thought provoking space, thumping beats rise out of a soulful strum-led break into an ever-evolving, free form finale.

The EP’s final selection ‘Hypnotica’ finds Sebastian continuing to diversify his portfolio with a whimsical creation that’s nicely dialled for the sunrise hours. Deeper in design and highly stylized in delivery, its beautifully contoured, funk-fuelled groove sets the course for incandescent melodies and otherworldly harmonics to create a panoramic musical skyline. Often celebrated for his ability to create emotional themes, Sebastian has ventured further with the ‘Blizzard’ collection, into a time of true innovation, traversing a multitude of realms and dimensions within the progressive spectrum, while excelling throughout.

Launching their Meanwhile Horizons imprint with suitable flair in August 2021 with “Beyond The Horizon”. Initially through a quartet of sparkling tracks, GMJ & Matter return to the series with a second edition. Seven new pieces now showcase the talents of established and newcomers alike within “Beyond The Horizon Volume 2”.

Fresh from his “We Are One” EP for Nick Warren’s The Soundgarden, Zankee Gulati opens the compilation with the atmospheric “The Magic Spoon”. Redolent in rolling percussive groove and thickly textured pads, a rippling arpeggio paves the way for a laconic lead synth to meander across the 9-minute piece, taking centre stage at the breakdown. Typically deep and brooding, Meanwhile regular, Imran Khan, highlights a raft of production magic within “Serenity”. Immaculately woven sonic patterns meander across the aptly named track as modulated pads and layered sequences mingle deliciously together. A heavy beat and regular off-beat percussion add to the trademark mesmerising vibe.

Following up on September 2022’s “Space Walk” EP, Covsky joins forces with newcomer, Frais, as the pair hit the ground running with “Sands of Time”. Full of emotion, a wonderful sub-bass groove creates a flawless foundation for a suite of elegant melodic layers to weave an imaginative sonic picture, reaching a rousing crescendo at the mid-point before bursting into life in the second half. A Horizons debutant, Federico Puentes, paints an evocative aural landscape as “Autumn Leaves” delivers a meticulous percussive framework within which smooth motifs and breathy vocal counterweight, flow in repeated patterns. Pausing for breath to let the melodic elements shine, the second half continues to paint the vivid melodic patterns of earlier movements.

Another Meanwhile first-timer with releases on Mango Alley, The Soundgarden and Keyfound, Billka makes a powerful impression with his delicate “Promises”. A repeated bassline and synth motif belies its simplicity as emotion is built midway via sublime vocal sequences. Coupled with deep kick and light percussive air, the track flourishes to a masterful sonic conclusion. UK producer, Fabreeka, has witnessed an impressive rise to prominence since a 2019 debut for Mistique Music, and his “Dream Path” is full of innovative motifs that blend together to create the perfect symbiotic whole. Through strong rhythm and rolling hi-hat groove, the track reaches its zenith in the third movement to striking effect.

The final track sees GMJ return to familiar ground with his Qiam alter-ego. Making his debut on “Beyond the Horizon”, “Light Recall” is a masterfully produced ambient piece that glistens with sonic stardust. Deliciously textured pads modulate across the left/right spectrum, while discordant analogue synth patterns play out in pitched delays before powerful bassline and vocal effects lift the track through its latter stages. Intelligently imagined, a raft of layers delivers intrigue and innovation in equal measure.

James Gill returns to the label starting his 2023 with an explosive package. 

New Jersey native, James has built a solid reputation for his unique groovy progressive style and over the past two decades his music has soundtracked parties across the globe.

Opening with the muted acid tones of title track ‘Sahara’, James wraps the listener up in his magical cape of melancholy and takes them on a sonic journey of discovery! Ebbing and flowing with consummate ease, the groove transports you in the best way before Vangelis-esque melody lines in the main break ramp up the energy for that pre-peak ride.

Next up, ‘Neon Skies Melt My Mind’ open with bubbly bass and a mind-altering airy pad. Growing slowly over the opening sections with light arps and hypnotic percussive lines, the main break washes over you before the big drop.

Rounding out the EP, ‘Nucleation’ strides a darker, late night path. Sombre and pacey, the energy grows more insistently and with an air of menace. One for the moments just before dawn.

Juicebox Music's 63rd release sees Dowden & Forty Cats teaming up for a 2-track EP featuring "Orbit" & "Airtime". Initially making her debut on our label with another collaborative EP with fellow countrymen from Russia - Meeting Molly & Mango and then following up with a single release titled "Moscow Time", Christina Gavrilova aka Forty Cats has become an integral part of our roster. While Dowden, better known to his family & friends as Brenden Dowden, recently joined the label with a remix of Alan Cerra's "Arrival" early this year. Equipped with an arsenal of techniques by being a music production instructor & inspired by a fairly wide-ranged style as well, Dowden's carved his name into becoming a household name for many fans & DJs alike. Collectively, Dowden & Forty Cats' music can be found on well established imprints like Hernan Cattaneo's 'Sudbeat', Lane 8's 'This Never Happened', Mango's 'Mango Alley', Eran Aviner's 'Edge' + GMJ & Matter's 'Meanwhile' to name a few. With this first ever collaboration between the two, Dowden & Forty Cats' delve into their strengths to create a perfect balance. Embracing a theme around space, "Orbit" gets powered by a strong drive with softer floating melodies while "Airtime" embraces the groovier side with delayed riffs swirling about with special oratory notes slotted in. 

We're excited to welcome back Alan Cerra as the sole remixer on this release. Relatively new in the industry, the Santa Cruz (Argentina) based artist has been releasing some amazing music over the past 3 years with highlighted labels such as Roger Martinez's 'Higher States', Armen Miran's 'Hoomidaas', Integral Bread's 'Univack' as well as Mike Koglin & MoodFreak's 'YOMO' to name a few. Having made his first appearance on our imprint with "Caravan" on our inaugural edition of Fables and then following up with a 2-track EP featuring "Henkere" & "Arrival", which featured a remix from Dowden, it seemed fitting to have Alan return the favour. Alan Cerra's rendition of "Airtime" retains the tonal flavour of the original's elements but with a more oomph to crank the vibe level up to eleven.

Deepwibe Underground's -102C opens the spring season by welcoming Nopi to the label for his debut EP. Ukrainian artist Nopi brings a surreal beauty to his innovative brand of electronic composition. His colourful synth leads, exotic percussive arrangements and smooth, dancefloor minded grooves have made for a sound that is all his own. Emerging in 2019, Nopi has enjoyed a three-year creative swell, earning the praise of electronic music tastemakers such as Behrouz, Guy J, Lee Burridge, Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren, Sebastian Leger and more; while All Day I Dream, Do Not Sit, Replug and TRYBESof have served as landing spots for his transcendent sound. Having released an EP and two remixes for label affiliate Deepwibe Underground, Nopi now debuts on -102C with a two track showcase entitled 'Winter Bowl'.

EP opener and title selection ‘Winter Bowl’ finds Nopi composing with strong organic qualities. Seductive from the outset, its looping hypnotism, youthful vocal fragments and subtle musicality never fail to command your attention. Creamy arps build to a temperate boil across the first act, nicely set against aquatic effects and sturdy percussion, before perfectly segueing into a dreamy, vocal-infused break and elegant piano-laced finale.

Companion piece 'Delema' builds with a subdued pulse as broken beats and exotic drums eventually reveal a world of textural and structural dimensions which blanket key changing grooves and panoramic arps. Thematically distinct throughout, the Ukrainian’s misty melodies are haunting and highly memorable, ringing out in timeless suspension, before segueing into a transcendent finale that should fair well in the morning hours. Already a favourite of Eelke Kleijn, it rounds out an excellent -102C debut for Nopi, an artist we hope to hear much more from as 2023 moves forward. Highly recommended.
