Warming S05E03 Sui

Edited sound recording. 

Spring 2017 - I'm riding my bike home from work at around 5am. The birds are chirping and my bike rattles in a lovely rhythm. I enjoy the sounds and want to take them in. I follow my curiosity and lose myself in it for a moment. As I pass a man and our eyes meet, I immediately sense that something is wrong. When I turn around again, I see that he is running behind me on the cycle path. I shout at him and insult him. He laughs maliciously and makes obscene gestures with his face. I am faster. Further ahead in the street, I see a woman with a coffee in her hand and headphones walking in the direction of the man. Despite my fear, I stop and try to warn her. She doesn't hear me. I have to keep going. Quickly home. When I finally arrive at my apartment and lock up, I realize that the recording has been playing the whole time. 
This is the document of a situation that my friends and I have often experienced. An experience that is always questioned because not everyone experiences it like this.

Bearbeitete Tonaufnahme. 

Frühling 2017 - ich fahre mit meinem Fahrrad gegen 5h morgens von der Arbeit nach Hause. Die Vögel zwitschern und mein Fahrrad klappert in einem liebevollen Rhythmus dazu. Ich erfreue mich an den Klängen und will sie aufnehmen. Folge meiner Neugier und verliere mich für einen Moment darin. Als ich an einem Mann vorbeifahren und unsere Blicke sich treffen, fühle ich sofort das etwas nicht stimmt. Als ich mich wieder umdrehe, sehe ich das er hinter mir auf dem Fahrradweg rennt. Ich schreie ihn an und beleidige ihn. Er lacht hämisch und macht obszöne Gesten mit seinem Gesicht. Ich bin schneller. Weiter vorne in der Straße, sehe ich eine Frau mit Kaffe in der Hand und Kopfhörern in die Richtung des Mannes gehen. Trotz aller Angst, bleibe ich stehen und versuche sie zu warnen. Sie hört mich nicht. Ich muss weiter. Schnell nach Hause. Als ich endlich in meiner Wohnung ankomme und abschließe, merke ich, dass die Aufnahme die ganze Zeit über weiter lief. 
Das ist das Dokument, einer Situation wie sie meine Freundinnen und ich schon sehr oft erlebt haben. Eine Erfahrungen die immer wieder in Frage gestellt wird, weil sie so nicht alle erleben. 
Hier kann dieser Erfahrung hörend nachvollzogen werden.

“Kutter bei die Fische” is the magical last night in the living room of the Fusion, the ultimate finale echoed from the beloved stellar-cutting vessel.

So many days of sonic journeying must somehow conclude with 12 hours of music from the crew, who lovingly bring the boat home after its wild voyage has taken it far beyond everywhere.

This year, three friends spontaneously found themselves at the Kutter’s helm, graced with the honor to present an impromptu live-hybrid set which brought the last part of the trip to its resounding culmination ritual.

Seen cradled on the safety-net of Karla K’s omni-dimensional catamaran, captured in their first moment embraced anew by the physical form, after being so far transported (alongside their freaky-sensitive peers) that it occurred to no one to create any visual documentation (yep, no stage photos!). Fortunately, they had not been too mightily removed to press record, so the ears may dreamily provide a gateway for reentry into this spellbound adventure.

Sui, Shmulewitz and Parole Emil! interweave pearls from the depths in this destined climax for Fusion 2024, for which they submerged far into numinous waters flowing as auditory oceans into the heart — a nutritious serving of boundless sounds seasoned with Omri’s improvisation and a fine selection of spoken-word samples.

One final listen together and a euphoric pause for a few tears and many warm hugs — because there can never be enough of that. Take care of your little bodies and buddies 💖

Two vinyl decks and two CDJs functioned as Sui’s and Emil’s set up, upon which Omri played a kudo shofar (antelope horn 1m”30cm), Yamaha CP keyboard, Roland TR-606 drum machine, ATV aFrame (electroorganic drum), GR-1 granular synthesizer (live processing), effect pedals and vocals."Kutter bei die Fische" is the magical last night in the living room of the fusion, the cutter.

During Foggy's Aperigiri, here at Giri Berlin, Sui brought us an urban music set, Hip Hop music with diverse influence in it, including Raggaeton, Footwork, Jungle, Drill and more. Tune in for a vocal based electronic music dj set.
Sui is a sound lover and artist based in Berlin. She has deep appreciation for spaces which care for experimental sound and making it accessible to people.

@sui_so has a soft spot for non commercial community radio, may be the reason she studied experimental radio at the Bauhaus university. Living working as a sound artist and community carer in Berlin she is always open for collabs as she is deeply rooted in the idea of entanglement and interconnection within creation and that we can not built this thing called life in isolation. 
While we were recording this radio show it started to pour heavy rain, so this mix became kind of a perfect soundtrack for the rainy summer days and hopefully a soothing companion for introversion and reflection. From Sui with 💜

PART I - High energy into the night

There is this place which operates as a glitch of the systemic reality. A temporary autonomous zone which eludes the social rules and norms for a moment, a crack in time in space which gives us a glimpse of what also can be there. It does so because it’s temporary and therefore sinks deep into to our hearts and colours imagination of possible worlds. It’s a situational laboratory and shouldn’t be confused with „the“ solution to systemic reality and therefore romanticized. Its strength lies in the vulnerability to its own fallibility and the ever going trial and error, as an organic growth and transformational process. 
And then there is the glitch in the glitch. A beloved space by many and at the same time known by few, who intuitively and courageously are on a constant search for those cracks in time and space. 
On the first night of Karla Kutter Stage of Fusion Festival 2025 the space generously was given to an idea of DJ performance which itself is a crack in time & space. 

The (friend of the stage) & friends slot. After last years amazing Etkin & friends slot which started this series this year 
Sui & friends filled the space from late night hours till the morning. This concept seeks to deconstruct common ideas of DJ-performance & performance-pressure and is focussed on the celebration of friendship and the shared love and dedication for music and artistic expressions through sound. 

As chaos never died and we swim through chaos, but together. 

The friends which lovingly and warmly brought their magic to Karla Kutter and created this journey through various ideas of bass music, are dk, Spoonman Dj & UMAIR. 

dk is deeply interested and therefore connected to the environments of living beings and their expressions beyond human perception. As she exposes these complex structures in her artistic approach she constantly webbed unknown, complex yet thriving sounds into this sound journey. @dianavommond

dj spoonman full of musical and human care not only knows how to play a ballad with two wooden spoons but also how to keep a flow going in the most surprisingly sounding ways. @spoonmandj

UMAIR as the first arthouse filmmaker from Karachi, Pakistan and incredible soul of human knows how to tell a story in multidimensional ways in image and sound. @uma1rbilal

"I want to visit Karla at her beautiful home 
- it is said that all the hearts who know to travel the waves of honest gloom and light gather at Karla's place. They built their boats out of vulnerable fears, healing laughs and the sails are sewed from old bed sheets of grumpy pirates" 
So Sui replied: We'll better get that old-grumpy-pirate-bedsheed fast and l have a dance with Karla and her friends through a lazy-blurry sunny-humming afternoon."
 They packed their sounding treasures to give them as a gift and anchored at Karla's. I felt like home.
 Home is where a heart anchors.
