The incredibly talented and awe inspiring Fungi Girls have been melting minds for years now with their absurdly proficient delivery of ultimate top-grade psychedelic rock. Hailing from the deserts near Fort Worth, Texas, Fungi Girls made a name for themselves in the garage/psych/surf/lo-fi scene with releases on famed specialty label HoZac as well as early accolades from the likes of Psychedelic Horseshit and other like-minded freaks of that era. Unlike a lot of the early lo-fi ("shitgaze" remember that?) bands that blossomed and burned away like beer cans in a fire pit, with only their damaged, beautiful artifacts left for us to ponder over, Fungi Girls championed on and developed their sound even further; heavy garage psychedelia with tracers of OG surf, kraut, and shoegaze; The 13th Floor Elevators, The Stooges, Jesus and Mary Chain, The Sonics, and Steppenwolf trippin' deeply in the desert at night. Essential.

Gnar Tapes founder, singer of both legendary chunk rock band White Fang and beloved merry pranksters The Memories, traveler of the world, lover of many, stoner of the century Rikky Gage aka Free Weed returns with his most anticipated cassette maybe ever. While Free Weed has released many albums under many concepts with many styles including heavy sample use and found instrumentals, there has been a few tapes that focus on original guitar pop songs. "Bong Pop" is a direct sequel to "Free", which was a sequel to "Beer On The Drugs" which was a sequel to the self-titled debut. Unlike those two other releases though, "Bong Pop" is pure guitar pop songs - beginning to end. Destined to be the definitive Free Weed classic. Mellow melodies and weed worship. Fans rejoice!

BOOM! is one of the best rock bands in the world right now. Izak Arida and Chris Scott grew up in the Inland Empire of Southern California and relocated to Portland in 2008. Since then they have been key figures in the Portland rock and party scenes, known for their good vibes and bratty attitudes, on top of being an all out killer live band and champion drinkers. Izak, who is also a core member of The Memories, is a pop songwriter on the level with some of today's best musical minds. His solo projects, including bedroom pop persona Totally You and rap act Skinny Jesus, all shine with the bright light of Izak, but BOOM! is an animal unto itself. Drummer Chris Scott also drums full time in surf punk party hellraisers Guantanamo Baywatch and is one of the most powerful drummers in the game right now. BOOM! has released a handful of excellent lo-fi pop punk cassette and vinyl but this new nugget is right up front with the best of them. This excellent new EP also features Mikey Hodges (aka Pop Zeus) which makes this an all out supergroup. Grab a couple cases of beer and kick this late night basement stoner drunk party right.

AUSMUTEANTS started life in late 2011 in Geelong by Jake Robertson and Billy Gardner. Both had been playing since teenagers in trad garage bands The Frowning Clouds (Jake) and The Living Eyes (Billy). Being good looking rebels who play by their own rules, they cracked the shits, broke loose with just a synth and drums and in early 2012, knocked out the 'Split Personalities' tape. By the time that was out they'd added Melbourne loose-unit Marc Dean on bass, and soon after, ex-Canberran hardcore non-guitarist Shaun Connor on guitar.

Their second album 'Amusements' (note: not self-titled) came from this fledgling time as a full band, with a heavy dose of the duo’s songs. Since the runaway international success of that record and playing every second weekend in Melbourne, they’re rocked-out full-tilt with all four members writing and singing new songs. 23 of these were recorded live with vocal overdubs in the basement of an old Geelong ice cream factory by Mikey Young, then mixed and mastered in his idyllic coastal abode. Again the band and their Australian label Aarght Records strained the friendship with song picks, agreeing on 13 to make up 'Order of Operation'.

This record is better than Amusements any way you cut it: songs, lyrics, delivery and sound. The album opens up with Shaun’s forehead- and thigh-slapping musical and lyrical debut, "Freedom of Information". His girlfriend is suffering the indignity with panache. From there, songs range from balls-to-the-wall punkers ("Felix Tried to Kill Himself"; "Boiling Point"), well-considered workouts ("Family Time"; "Tunnel Vision") and unguarded tenderness ("Wrong"; "Looney Bin").

It's not just the band and label singing the album’s praises; it's the people who couldn't stand their juvenile bullshit before. They’ve ditched the toilet humour, got nasty and written songs about other people’s problems, terrible bands, fighting crime and trading sex for porn. Mikey after a vocal take: “You deserve to be bashed for that” (the song’s on the record; you guess which one).

'Order of Operation' is now their defining moment. If you don't like this record, you pretty much won't ever like Ausmuteants.
