'Sound of' explores the different soundscapes, genres and geographies within electronic dance music. For her latest mix, Anna Rose Wirth aka Anx has mixed a collection of effervescent sounds inspired by her obsession with fizzy water. The show starts with a deep, ambient intro and slowly builds through moody trance, dubby house, bubbly-bass and Drexciyan techno. Expect to be craving a glass of sparkles by the end!

“Outsiders” is a new show focusing on deep, odd, emotive and interesting music, new and old, known and unknown. The show will also be hosting guest mixes from the Freerotation family and beyond, always with the emphasis on something different but relatable. The first show is a collection of new music which grabbed his attention this month, 2 hours of quality sounds with the above criteria which he’s honoured to spotlight. Roy Mills' productions are tripped-out explorations into the outer realms of the dancefloor psyche. Always referencing 90’s UK sounds, Roy neatly weaves sound system experimentalism, post-rave storytelling and movement-focused energy into sunrise-adoring bass music and techno.

His DJ sets are both seismically bone-rattling and unpredictable; always twisting, turning and catching the dancer off-guard. He played in Bristol with Cando and Monika Tenaska before the world was put on hold and was due to tour Asia and Europe with his endearing sound.

Roy is a regular in the Rinse FM studios and has provided mixes to Chile’s JOIA magazine and Fake Rolex, Bristol’s Noods Radio and Sydney’s number one bass-leaning show, Body Promise.

2019 saw Roy debut a single on Andy Garvey’s Pure Space records. Shortly after, he moved to London from Melbourne where he launched his label Local Knowledge Records with Melbourne stalwarts DJ Mum and Issa, while also releasing his debut LP as a private press CD. Recently, Roy produced two EP’s, an LP, and scored a short film; all due for release later this year. 

This absorbing mix of contemporary dance music is the perfect start to the new year.
