These short radio plays are written and performed by 7 year old second graders from McGilvra Elementary school, a public school in Seattle Washington.  The project was conceived by Coltrane documentary producer Steve Rowland.  It was produced in a series of 6 sessions with the children led by Steve Rowland and educator/historian Joan Hsiao.  The entire project sponsored by and produced by Jackstraw Productions, Executive Director Joan Rabinowitz.

MOCK UP: Notos - The South Wind (BMI Work#21725592)

Rust was inspired by Leonard Koren's book on Wabi Sabi, the rather undefinable Japanese aesthetics of beauty.
This piece deals with the elemental aspect of wabi sabi, the beauty of things falling apart in nature and the transformation into another form.
Rust was written for and performed by the Seattle based group, Scrape, an experimental string orchestra, featuring electric guitar and harp, founded by Jim Knapp. I sat in for the harp player, was that a learning experience!
