Listen to Marcus' first ever SUNANDBASS appearance back in 2006 at the 10 Years ESP session. It was also DJ Lee’s birthday and those who were there may remember the special vibe at Ambra Night! Marcus and ourselves instantly connected back then and he became an integral part and great supporter of the festival. SUNANDBASS First Timers

This is the first year since 2003 without visiting Sardinia and lining up friends, artists, locals and drum & bass fans from all over the world. When our „Beyond Beaches“ concept didn’t take off I thought ok - then it will be a year to step back and observe. As September was approaching it started to itch again, I needed to line something up. We always planned to release some older live recordings. For this special occasion I thought a theme of „first timers“ would be fitting, showcasing the first set a DJ ever played at sunandbass. It reflects the „first time“ in many, many years we can’t all meet in our beloved San Teodoro to celebrate friendship and life with good food, beautiful beaches and our favorite soundtrack. The plan is to release a series of sets starting from tomorrow and take you through a journey of unforgettable moments throughout the history of SUNANDBASS.
 
For this first release I picked Bryan G with Stamina MC, Deeizm and MC Lowqui. I remember Utah Jazz calling me the day of his arrival from Milan airport, where they had a stop-over. He passed the phone to Bryan who was worried he could only play for an hour. „I just want to play music!“ - and gee he did, he totally smashed the place in true Bryan „Dubplate“ G style! I believe some of the tunes he played 12 years ago are yet to be released and some probably never will. Check Stamina’s reaction at some of those drops - and how the MCs were vibing throughout the set. You can feel the energy of the Gazebo coming through your speakers, it was an awesome night.

First Timers: Bryan G with Stamina MC, Deeizm and Lowqui @ SUNANDBASS 2008

Part three of the „first timer“ series takes us back to 2011, the first year Marky joined us in San Teodoro. We had been discussing this for many years - Marky even mentions himself on the recording, that Lowqui was telling him for 6 years to come (basically since Lowqui came the first time himself in 2006). He had to make up for all those years he missed and played an energy loaded 3 hour set! Back then it was the busiest night we had ever experienced in that outdoor area - and it re-shaped the meaning of dancing under the stars for us. That particular night inspired the redesign of that whole outdoor area at Ambra Night, adding a bigger rig and transforming it into a dance arena. 

Marky was supported by Stamina MC, MC Lowqui, Deeizm MC Fats and MC Tali, and everybody was on point! He scratched, drummed, upside-down scratched, danced, sang and took everybody on a fantastic journey through the various facets of Drum&Bass. Since then Marky took over the Wednesday night outdoor area at SUNANDBASS and he absolutely loves it! Every year he complains that he can only stay for 3 days as he has to travel to his next tour stop somewhere in Europe. Let’s hope next time he can join us for a little longer and relax a couple of days at La Cinta beach.

Up next on our mix series, we welcome Lens who form's part of the ever-growing wealth of women taking over the D&B scene. Starting out in Brighton, she regularly opened for Hybrid Minds, Technimatic, Randall, SpectraSoul and many more. Lens has now gone on to become a resident DJ for Hospital Records and taken command of their long-running Rinse FM show.

For us, she delivers an eclectic mix of energy and a wide range of D&B flavours full of soulful vocals, warped breaks alongside the ever prominent gritty basslines. Oh, we do miss the club with mixes like these...
