A special affair forged through artifacts and the places where they are made and found, but especially with the magic they carry and conjure. This is the world of Wyatt Potts, a talented Angeleno who devoted his life to the unearthing and divulging of these treasures of personal value, communal worth and universal reach, especially through his Heatwave events, a constant source of aural warmth in the area of which he gives us a small but powerful glimpse here.

En somme, une nouvelle excursion qui montre l'envergure du spectre musical des Voyous. Une belle sortie de route pour Timéo qui découvre et s'éprend pour l'univers de la slow dance et du downtempo, bien guidé par Dj Sanza.

Bside Incoming: Hiatt dB

It’s with great pleasure that we bring you another amazing artist from further a field in our ‘Bside Incoming’ series. An accomplished percussionist and DJ turned producer, and of course a man with an impressive vinyl collection: Hiatt dB.

This is a Bside showcase all the way from New Orleans, where he began his career performing percussion and holding down the decks before founding his very own party series and record label. It’s a city of rich musical history in which Hiatt dB has built his own soundsystem which made its Mardi Gras maiden voyage this year. You’ll find him broadcasting regularly on WUTL New Orleans 91.5 (8-10pm Saturdays) as well as promoting some great dance music from across the Gulf South via his Mystery Zone Records.

He is actually the first American to release on Rhythm Section, our own first feature of the ‘Bside of...’ series. The B2 track ‘Everyday Break’ is an energetic breaks track that only serves to prove his pedigree as a percussionist:

Inner Touch is the embodiment of Nicolas Field within the electronic music art form. With a storied history informing their most recent work, Inner Touch is a concise vision of transformation and relinquishment. The music is both simple and deceptively deep, best suited to those seeking moments of transcendence on the dancefloor.

Throughout the last decade, Nicolas has toured extensively around the world, mostly with punk bands, galvanizing a thirst for moving and connecting people through music. Along with dozens of musical collaborations and releases, Field has published Farewell Manly Strength: Masculinity and the Politics of Emotion (Furrawn Press 2018), their take on the contemporary state of masculinity and gender identity. There is a wisdom and thoughtfulness that guide Nicolas' art, a calm and focused resolve that renders a delicate intensity.

100% Gone is the debut EP from Inner Touch. A five track exploration of synthetic textures, pulsing beats and polyrhythm that would happily bop in any night club. Yet these tracks hold the listener effortlessly to a place of fulfilled solitude and with a wonder for the natural world. This juxtaposition of solitude and community, nature and synthesis is what makes Inner Touch so special and a joy to listen to.
