One of the UK’s biggest breakout dance acts of the past few years, Franky Wah made his Anjunadeep debut earlier this year with ‘Should Have Seen It Coming’, feat. AETHO. The Yorkshireman’s label debut racked up over 30 BBC Radio 1 plays, including a Hottest record accolade from Annie Mac, SiriusXM playlist support, and over 4 million streams in the past 8 months. In 2021 alone, he’s released a string of chart-topping originals, collaborating with some of the biggest names in dance music including Carl Cox, Lee Foss, Cristoph, and Sasha.

Franky Wah now returns, sharing the lead single and title track from his second Anjunadeep EP ‘Bring Me Back To You’, featuring English singer-songwriter iiola. Supported by BBC Introducing and Complex for her solo material, iiola has made a name for herself in recent years, collaborating with Sub Focus and Wilkinson on their UK Dance #1 album ‘Portals’ and supporting acts such as Nina Nesbitt and Saint Raymond.

“‘Bring Me Back To You’ really felt like the perfect follow up to ‘Should Have Seen It Coming’, lyrically, sentimentally, and also because of the message it stands for. iiola and I had been working on a few different records together but she felt like the perfect addition to this track and Anjuna also stood out as the perfect home. I know iiola actually pulled her car over to Shazam ‘Should Have Seen It Coming’ when she first heard it on BBC Radio 1 so it really feels like it’s all come full circle for the both of us,” Franky says.

Fresh off the back of his debut UK headline tour, Franky Wah is set to embark on his first US headline run this November.

A fresh and summery collaboration arrives on Defected, as Grigoré, Serve Cold and Jaguar Jaguar deliver ‘Dancing’. Grigoré has risen to success producing and DJing across house and techno spheres, quickly earning him respect from world-class artists like Solomun, CamelPhat and Kevin de Vries. His work with frequent collaborator Serve Cold began with his third EP, Seasons, with the tracks channelling both artists’ melancholic and melodic sides. For their Defected debut, the pair unite with Belgian band Jaguar Jaguar, who share the producers’ spiritual aesthetic and talent for electronic music. Jaguar Jaguar’s blissed-out vocals contrast with Grigoré and Serve Cold’s harder production for an chic and dreamlike house outing, evoking blissed-out, open-air vibes just in time for summer. I remember fondly hearing David’s music for the first time. His beautiful haunting vocals and melodies instantly hooked me. I went down a rabbit hole through David’s gorgeous discography. 

His compositions are cinematic, stripped down, cohesive stories that touch our basic emotions. 

When I discovered ‘The World Retreats’ I knew I had to try and do my own club version. I bought the track and immediately started working on it. I was so inspired then that eventually the lead for ‘Her Perfect Sky’ came out of one of the first ideas for this remix.

Eventually I finished the first version and sent it to David on SoundCloud straight away. Without his permission I had taken the liberty to remix one of his own compositions and I was not sure how he would respond to that. 

Thankfully he did like the remix and we kept in touch ever since, that was in 2018.

In 2019 ‘The World Retreats’ is debuting on the highly praised Netflix show show ‘Dark’, David and I aimed to release this remix for free on SoundCloud as a way thank the audiences of both the music and the show and to share our stories with all of you. SoundCloud is where our first connection happened so it made sense for us to come full circle and give it away for free on this platform.
