Madloch's Sound Avenue rounds out the month of July by welcoming Forty Cats back to the label for her debut EP. With well over a decade's worth of DJ experience, Russian artist Christina Gavrilova aka Forty Cats has been a fixture of her country's nightlife, sharing the stage with Jody Wisternoff, Nick Warren, Yotto, Dave Seaman and more. Christina's production debut landed three years ago via 8bit Music, and in relatively short order the Russian artist has gone on to release projects via Lane 8's This Never Happened, Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music and Mango Alley. Also finding a home on Sound Avenue, Forty Cats opened the year with a remix of ‘Dreaming Home' by Eric Lune, before going on to re-imagine Nopi's ‘Hookan Idyll' a few short months later. Now as we enter the year's third quarter, Forty Cats returns to Sound Avenue with her first EP project entitled ‘Forest Beast', alongside remixes from Berni Turletti and Weird Sounding Dude.

The second and final interpretation of ‘Forest Beast' is provided by Weird Sounding Dude who returns to the label for his second appearance. Based in Bangalore, the Indian artist is now considered one of his country's most beloved progressive house producers. As a favourite of the genre's premiere tastemakers, Weird Sounding Dude has compiled an impressive discography with standout releases via Anjunadeep, Hoomidaas, The Soundgarden and Sudbeat Music, while receiving play and support from Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren and Guy J. Having made his Sound Avenue debut last year with a remix of ‘Union Eterna' by Matias Vila, Weird Sounding Dude now makes a welcome return to the label with an equally impressive take on ‘Forest Beast'. The Bangalore resident's relentless curiosity for rhythmic and harmonic experimentation basks in progressive radiance here, as a delirious blur of hook heavy synths, shadowy vocal fragments and wavy arps emerge from a bed of pulsating beats and voluptuous basslines. Its eager optimism peaks across a one-minute interlude, collapsing under its gravity as modulation rises onwards to a thumping drop and hypno-fuelled finale.

'With the 45th release on their esteemed imprint, GMJ and Matter welcome Tantum to Meanwhile with his 3-track, "Secondary / Suan Pan / Narko".

Entering the world of music by way of electric guitar, it wasn't long before Tantum started to experiment with the music of legendary figures including Eric Prydz, Deadmau5 and Fehrplay. Quickly finding his feet with a distinctive blend of melodic techno and progressive house, the German made an impressive debut on EIN2 in late 2018 in partnership with Thales Boutroumlis. A full EP debut on Juicebox Music followed in early 2019 from which Tantum has continued to find himself forging an impressive path, culminating in May 2023's "Korner" for the Praveen Achary led imprint. Close to a century of production credits have followed that early work with releases on Mango Alley, Monaberry and Guy J's Lost and Found. It is for the latter, that Tantum has released 3 EPs including January 2023's "Another Day / Havel / Acetone". 

Supported by a prominent and growing band of A-listers including Super Flu, Nick Warren, Sasha and Guy J himself, it is an honour to welcome Tantum to Meanwhile for a debut release. Driven forward by a chest-thumping kick and ticking percussion, "Secondary" soon finds a smooth bass groove providing dancefloor credentials. A shimmering arpeggio pans the stereo spectrum with ease as occasional note changes pique interest. Reaching a filtered zenith at a gloriously extended breakdown, the track drops back into its low-slung groove in the third movement to impressive effect.

Continuing with a similar cast of characters assembled for "Suan Pan", a strong beat and hypnotic arpeggio once again play their part as a delay-infused analogue synth lead creates subtle tension and spine-tingling atmosphere. Using melodic elements as the main rhythmic force, the track rises and falls with ease while a bassline sequence acts as a dancefloor anchor alongside off-beat hi-hats. The result is an exciting original production.

The final piece sees another atmospheric offering, courtesy of "Narko". Redolent in eerie stereo-panned effects and mesmerising melodic sequence, muted stabs come to life with gradual open-filtered energy. A further counterpoint melody enters the fray at the breakdown, rising to a rousing and chaotic LFO frenzy before the narrative of previous tracks is continued via heavy rhythmic pattern and sub-bass groove.

Hitting the heights with easy skill and sublime artistry, Tantum delights with "Secondary / Suan Pan / Narko".'

To kick things off, we're featuring the original track "Flick The Switch." This compelling progressive number is designed to captivate, featuring a minimal tech approach within the main melody. Next up is the first of three remixes, this one from Argentina's Luca Abayan, Luca joins us for the first time and, to be sure, will not be the last. What Luca brings us is a monster, that well-known sound from South America that is recognisable from the off. There are no holds barred here that kick bass hits you hard from the off, and this grows and grows to the break before once again boom,

We then have the first of two from Ranj, we and you all know when Ranj produces, it is of a top-tier level, and these are no different, Ranj does what he does sooooo well taking you in a different direction: His Deep State remix is gorgeous, a slice of breaks utilising the main line but in a very different sound/direction, This is something that you could see closing out a set, or setting things off,

Lastly is Ranj's Beatless Deep State Remix, as you can tell by the title, it does exactly as it says, this has a very Sashaesque Refracted feel to it, stripped back, but very recognisable within the original, this pulls together a very special release here, truly giving something different to all tastes.

Cid Inc. returns to his Replug Records imprint for the much anticipated follow-up to his chart topping ‘Abyss'. Released in April of this year, the peak time opus enjoyed a two week long stay atop Beatport's Progressive House tracks chart. Aided by months of live play from Hernan Cattaneo and Guy J, the boundless eight minute journey firmly sits as one of the year's best in progressive house. Now as the summer season winds to a close Cid Inc. presents the much anticipated follow-up entitled ‘Bird Cherry'.

For an artist who has captured the imagination of progressive music fans for over a decade, Cid Inc. has raised the bar yet again with ‘Bird Cherry'. From its lively beginnings you're immediately captivated as tight beats, buoyant bass tones and finely tuned percussion converge for the ultimate rhythmic wave. Sparse yet timely, ghostly effects add further anticipation before crunchy stabs steal the air as the main break commences. The centerpiece shifts the narrative into emotive territory as blissful harmonics and warm chord changes lead to a swirling synth vortex for the ages.

Equally stunning is the companion piece ‘Fear and Square'. Opening up with a punchy yet warm groove, Cid Inc's finest production hallmarks are on top form here. Hypnotic and fluid, the pulsating framework gets adorned with ghostly atmospheres, smooth rhythmic artefacts and a deadly, hip swinging arp. Adding further fuel to the fire a vocal narrative and growling stabs highlight the break, lost in a forest of cascading electronics and shifty harmonics before a timely roll sparks a dynamic drop. 

Cid Inc. has had a hand in many of progressive music's finest moments, from the aforementioned 'Abyss' to the 2017 smash 'Shifter' and the ultimate set closer in 'Contrite'. Never content with resting on his laurels the Replug label boss has etched another golden moment in the genre's history with 'Bird Cherry'.
